I would say this is a good sign. My dad had a dog who used to dig in the backyard, and to get the dog to stop digging, he would stomp the dogs paws and press down while the dogs was squealing in terror. The dog was eventually too terrified to ever dig again, so while technically my dads approach "worked", it worked because he forcefully stomped out a part of the dogs very nature because it was inconvenient to deal with, essentially turning the dog into an empty shell. He took the same approach to raising children, so all of his children and his ex-wife (my mother) are living as trauma victims.
