If you can look past the preachy left-wing tones and obvious reference to Western Imperialists trying to take the land/resources of tribal peoples in 'The New World' and Africa, then it is a great watch both visually and by audio. The fight scenes and battle scenes are fairly amazing and the special effects are next level.

I feel that the LOTR trilogy, as a whole, is the greatest movie, but it is all about personal choice. Shawshank, The Dark Knight, American History X, Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, Braveheart...all incredible, powerful movies.

I saw this movie 5 times in theaters and 100% agree. I got choked up several times and that never happens to me. The music was just unreal.

I wanna pick a low budget film as well and am gonna go with Phone Booth for that category. I watched it recently for the second time in nearly 2 decades and it really is amazing how it held the suspense throughout the entire film. Colin Farrel’s acting was on point and they filmed that thing in like 2 weeks. He got a standing ovation for doing that confession scene by the entire cast and crew because he did it on the first take.

That was a lot of pressure on Farrell as well, as he didn't get a break in the movie...given that the camera hardly moves away from him.

In terms of low budget but awesome movies, I would pick 'Dead Man's Shoes' which had a budget of only £723k. It is an indie UK movie though which I doubt many non-Brits would have heard of?

Just for the impact of the Joker actor itself, Batman Dark Knight for me is the best movie of all time. The Town is up there too.

Completely agree. Jaws seems to be starting to be a forgotten movie. But I rewatched it last week and was surprised that it’s actually a full blown masterpiece

One I can watch over and over and never tire of it is Psycho. The old black and white one.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

Goodfellas is a straight masterpiece of movie making.

Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket were great war movies.

Need to watch Platoon but I'm too cheap to pay the 5 bucks or whatever it is.
