People are looking into this too much these days. Make your money and spend it to improve your life. Ideally you'll be working a 9-5 that actually affords you a good lifestyle outside of work. Obviously people working a dead end job for $50k> are gonna feel cucked.

How can you spend money to improve your life when you don't have the time to do so? 2 off days is nothing. Vacation time has to be built up and you can't take it anytime you want.

It's why I'm looking for a professional construction career where I can work 9 months and have 2 to 3 off. Just knowing I'd have 2 to 3 months off to rot/degenmaxx/self improvemaxx sounds damn great to me. Now I just gotta find the line of work that let's me do that. Don't want to do nursing or teaching, so those are off the list.

if you are salaried you are expected to get your work done - sometimes it requires over 40hrs a week but it also can be less than 40hrs as well. if you manage your work load well, it should come out in your favor more often than not.

you have two days off and 1/3 of every day. You have to fill your time with things that you appreciate and it turns the noise down. I haven't been able to train how I want to two for two months because of a knee issue I am dealing with and I see how much more work is dragging me down - but that's on me cause I haven't backfilled my training time with something worthwhile.

Yup. My good friend is a 3rd year apprentice in the sheet metal union. All he does is crack jokes and shoot the chit with other alpha males all day in between lifting heavy objects. The boss buys them lunch daily. They go home feeling accomplished, actually contributing to society.

He’s gonna be set for life without a degree by the time he’s mid-late 30s too. The only problem with tradies is they wreck their bodies too early in life. If the pension system were set up so retirement age is 45-50ish it would be the GOAT career path. But blue collar work into your 60s? Das not it mane. I guess a foreman doesn’t have to do as much work though. Still, waiting to put in your time is a long game. The best option might be to tradie it up into your 30s then pivot to real estate and coast off investments by your 40s. Easier said than done I know.

2 off days is nothing, trust me. I wake up at 8a.m. on those days and that's considered sleeping in for me.

The 1/3 of every day is nothing either.
-Get off at 4p.m.
-Boxing gym at 4:40
-home by 6:30.
-Fix dinner and eat, it's 7:30.
-If I want to do cardio or lift in the morning Bed by 9p.m.

So that's 1 and a half hour. I haven't even been gaming like i usually do.

It's not always about "getting your work done." We're down 2 engineers since Thanksgiving and management is dragging their feet about finding replacements. We're getting their work done too. They're about to be down 3 depending on how a couple of interviews go in the next week or so. Also, most of the time when I'm at a customer site, my hours are billable. Our PM never met a billable hour she didn't like. After 8 hours they're charging the customer time and a half for me and paying me zero. When I'm at a well pad, I'm out there for 7 12s whether I'm sitting on my ass or desperately trying to get them back up again.

Uh no, your time at the gym counts. As does dinner time. As does cardio and anything else that you do before work. Those are your choices - they need to be fulfilling.
