Good. They are bringing them in to audit the federal government's extraordinarily reckless overspending of taxpayer dollars throughout the past couple of years, right?

Right?

They go after small businesses hard man. They find one item on the wrong line and fine the chit out of them, usually over an honest mistake. They start looking and creating situations for fines and liens. If you have ever been involved in a tax audit before then you would see how aggressive and picky they can be.

It’s not like they are gonna go after people who commit welfare fraud and start fining them. Like a tornado they will suck up everything in their path and fine and penalize honest people.

The bill includes a mandatory 15% minimum tax on corporations. It shall not pass.

I agree with you and can empathize with how difficult an audit is. I've never heard anyone say it was a pleasant process, but it is a necessary service to both create a deterrent effect and actually collect on owed taxes. I certainly think them going after easier targets is backwards logic and would much prefer them to be adequately staffed and funded so they can go after more effective targets.

The other way they can increase revenue is to simplify the tax code at the source, which the 15% alternative minimum tax for large corporations in the bill will certainly help with.

non-issue for 99% of Americans or for people who actually pay their taxes (instead of free-loading off of everyone else)

It’s noble to think that they will go after the top 1% and find all this tax fraud, but it simply doesn’t happen like that. These large corporations and high earners have the best tax attorneys and cpa on staff, they likely aren’t breaking any laws, just taking advantage of loopholes and enjoy the system they they helped create.

The people appointed to run the IRS, who do you think put them there? They are put there largely by lobbyist, the large corps and earners are friends of the politicians that appointed these people, they will not go after their friends. They will go after Joe six pack, the guy that runs a gutter business. It’s not like they will swoop in and collect taxes from the top earners and the budget will become balanced. They will take more and more from the everyday people, continue to spend out of control, and you and I will get less and less for our taxes.

They ended up just taking about $150 from my bank account, sent me a letter afterward saying they had done so.

The letter never explained what I had done wrong in my filing or my record keeping though. I even called, the person I spoke to couldn't tell me. If I were most people, I wouldn't have all the receipts and records still and I'd have owed them many thousands of dollars.
you have your own company or are you talking about your personal taxes? if it is personal taxes 3 years seems a bit late. However you got some responsibilty man.
this kinda sounds dramatic to me tbh.

Again I find myself largely agreeing with how it will likely play out, but those are larger criticisms of capitalism and the existing tax code complexity (e.g. high earners can afford to figure out to find loopholes, where lower earners cannot).

If we're stuck under the existing organization of government and the economy, I'd rather take the risk of some increased audits on the middle class for a chance at the noble goal of running down potential high-earning evaders. In any case, I'll take the bet that an individual revenue agent making around 200k all-in with benefits will bring in more uncollected tax revenue to offset their incremental expense.

Right, I don't think they need additional staffing for lower and middle earning tax returns either. If the intent is going after higher-earners, they most certainly need the extra resources.

Also your second point is a weird false equivalency. With added IRS staffing, we're talking about enforcement of existing laws, not the slippery slope of new legislation infringing upon individual privacy.

ok i was a bit harsh, to say "generate" just seems abit absurd, even if it is the correct accounting jargon, given that they take a quarter of your income just to burn it into thin air.

Pretty spot on.
In an ideal world, it makes sense.
In clown world, its another nail in the coffin for the typical American worker and small business owner. All costs on the latter will be passed down to consumers or lead to the business going under, which is a win for the large corporations.

They are already targeting the higher earners as that is the place for potential higher collection amounts. They can't spend the resources looking at the hair dresser that works all in cash. She/he claimed she earned $30k but actually made $50k. That $20k of extra income that she didn't claim only amounts to about $3k + penalties. That doesn't pay the auditors wages + travel expenses.
