The question is whether it's worth the time if you are starting out. How much work does it take to research all these deals?

If you have basic reading comprehension, average math skills, and financial discipline, it does not take much work at all to get started. A simple google search will give you all the credit card bonuses available.

Companies are cracking down on it, but if you haven't churned before, you are still able to do this to some degree. Maybe not churn, but get a couple thousand usd sure.

You're not going to be making a killing doing this

I'm onto a new card as soon as i hit the welcome bonus for the previous one. It is great for both myself AND my wife since all fees are waived. This makes it a no brainer for both of us to have as many as possible while the annual fee doesn't apply. We both have the top of the line cards all around and are working on more. The credit hit is negligible and our scores have gone up steadily since doing this...doesn't matter for us anyways since we are rentcels for the time being (can pay rent with a card too for insane welcome bonus reaping)

What does getting all these damn CCards do to your credit score?

I just stick with my wells fargo CC cash back (3% for everything IIRC, and I get 10% back for all my grocery store buys, which is a chitload nowdays)

10% on groceries is legit. Damn. I'm gonna look into that.

However, on opening up all the cards, you will get an initial ding to your credit... Maybe like a few points for the hard inquiry. I'm unsure if adding an additional line of credit impacts your score in the short term, but over time your credit line will be higher due to having more cards so your credit score will become higher and then some as long as you keep your balances low.

The only issue is a year from when you open the card when you pay the annual fee. You will either keep it and pay the fee or you will cancel the card. Canceling will ding your credit again. Nothing major, especially if you have other lines of credit like a mortgage or something, but it will drop a few points.

Best suggestion is not to do this before a major purchase which requires a top tier credit score.

The acquisition of a credit card is maybe a few points (no more than 5.) What you get out it by having a higher line of credit and, eventually, a longer credit history is much greater. I have friends with 30+ cards and over 800 credit score. I'm at the start of my CC journey and its gone up quite a bit since i started. I've opened 3 cards this summer and my score has gone up in that time with no other substantial contributing factors (didn't pay off any loans etc.)

Probably looking at the Capital One Venture, Chase Freedom Unlimited, and Amex Platinum for bonuses. Venture probably has the best bonus/annual fee ratio.

There are so many perks on the Platinum though - TSA Precheck / Clear / 5% off Flights / Lounge Access / $20 credits/mo for subscriptions, uber / other credits I haven't mentioned.

The $695 pays itself off tbh
The platinum is a no brainer especially if you fly delta. The Hilton one is really good but it’s $450. It comes with diamond status, $250 resort credit, $200 airline credit, among others. The card actually pays you to have it which is probably why diamond status in the US is pretty worthless for upgrades. Much better treatment overseas. I used to earn diamond with nights but switched to Hyatt. I keep diamond with the card and earn the Hyatt status. Looking at the Marriot cards for status with all 3 next year.

Signing up for cards for the signup bonus. You don't actually use them for everyday purchases. I have a set of 5 cards I use for those and the rest I don't touch except to keep active.

You can start here and decide what bonus you want the most for what you want to do. Because groceries are so high the Amex Gold with 4 points per dollar back for groceries (the highest offer for that category of all credit cards) is a good one. You can use those points for a statement credit or transfer to travel partners.

Chase Freedom Unlimited is a good one right now. $0 annual fee and a $300 bonus statement credit.

I have an 820 credit score and about 15 credit cards. The key is paying off the balances even before they are due.

This. I have quite a few and 800 score. The more cards you have the lower utilization will be which is good for your score. The few point drop from the hard pull is temporary and long run your score will be better.

I moved from where we had other grocery stores, to where they had Fry's.

FOUR fukin years I missed out on 10% cash back on all shopping there with my WF card, until like 3 months ago when I noticed at the bottom of my wellsfargo.com credit card site it mentioned "click here for x% off this store, x% off that, and saw one of them was for Fry's. But I am leaving this place in less than a year.

I must have spent like$60,000+ over those 4 years that I missed out on cash back by not noticing.

So yeah, log into your WF and go to the credit card account and look near the bottom, it looks like an ad, but it shows various stores you can "activate" to get specific cash back.

Notice on the bottom of my credit card tab all those deals? I always thought those were ads and never read it until a few months ago. There are various stores (looks like some are fukin 15%! ) you can "activate".

edit: damn, some of them expire after a while, looks like my Fry's one did after a few months, some have maximum cash back limits, so your miles will vary.

I have had a WF CC for almost 20 years now, and my limit is pretty damn high. I have their black card or whatever version is close to an actual black card, so I get better deals. 3% for EVERY purchase, and I had to specifically choose certain stores to get that 10%. edit: see above

I've had this CC since 2003, and have 100% on time payments. I think the CC has gotten 40 CENTS from me in fees for one month I forgot to pay, though I usually pay my bill 2-3 times a month to keep it at 1-3% utilization.

My dad was a banker so I never had the credit issues most retards have (not paying them off, racking up bills, thinking its free money). I'm not retarded and have been financially responsible since I was a little kid.

I have found closing cc accounts does ding my score a little. You want to keep the older accounts, with no fee especially, open for good. The older accounts in good standing really help the score.

That's good. I like luxury travel and without the credit card bonuses and miles no way would I be able to take the trips I have taken without them. No way would I put myself in business class paying cash - ridiculous prices.

Speaking of which, In the last month, I've watched most of this guy who travels around the world (LITERALLY, he will take trips around the globe just to try out top tier 1st class in-air-suites). You may enjoy these vids as well:

He also does train rides, which are even more amazing to watch

He rarely pays much money to fly on these ultra luxurious flights, uses miles and CC burning type schemes, I am truly jealous of him and his lifestyle, though I fukin hate flying at 6 foot 6 and having to normally fly economy or emergency exit row to have enough room to not have crushed kneecaps... I gotta get on that mileage scam game.

utilization matters more - I don't try to pay things before they hit - just have enough high limits (I have 50k limits on most my cards) to where even if you spend 7k/mo, your percent utilization is low. I went from 830 to 850 FICO simply by asking for a credit limit increase at one point.

Capital One Venture will credit you for Precheck / Clear or Global Entry, your preference. They also have additional cash back on flights and hotels via their travel site. Sometimes like 10% back on hotels.com or just booking hotels. I forget the details, but it's been a nice card. I also upgraded my Hertz membership through them. Booked a sedan and got upgraded to Presidential status when I arrived. They pointed to me to the lot and said pick whatever you want. Felt good man.

Capital One does a lot of other cool things. You can do add-ons to your browser to make sure you're paying best price on an item. They can also do virtual card numbers. If you don't want a website to have your CC number, you can easily create a new one with the extension.

They also have a ton of juicy discounts for major retailers. I don't do a lot of shopping so they are worthless to me, but they are pretty substantial, like 6-10% typically.

It actually increases your credit score long term because you have access to more credit. Short term you take a ding, but within 2-3 months your score will increase more than before. My score is 800 and I've churned a few cards and just refinanced my home, which was a big ding, took me down to like 770, but I'm back to 800 after a year.

I doubt you're getting 3% back on everything. I bet it's 2%.

I bought a laptop at the Apple Store and couldn't find any card that would give me more than 1%. I do not want an Apple card. I ended up using my Chase Sapphire Preferred to at least get extended warranty.

If any card gave 3% on everything, all the time, I'd definitely apply.

I just make every purchase with my credit unions CC and then pay it off every month. I make about $800 a year doing so. 1.5% return. I've tried finding higher but most seem to be around 1.5%

This is when the Citi Bank Double Cash would come in I would think. 2% on everything. Not 3, but yeah.

However, I don't see the point in that card. Might be a good daily card if you don't want to get into the weeds w/ knowing about credit card cash back categories, but my spending primarily revolves
around grocery stores, gas, and travel. There are so many good cards that hit those categories hard.

Could also consider the Prime card if you are a prime member (No Amazon stan srs) and bought the laptop on Amazon. 5% back. Amazon also has tons of food access, so its honestly a great card. No Jeff Bezos stan srs.

The Chase Freedom Unlimited gives 1.5% on everything. I have the Sapphire, freedom, and flex and use it to maximize chase points. You can combine them if you want to transfer them to something like Hyatt on the sapphire account. 1.5% on all my non bonused spending isn't bad but most of my spending besides things like utility bills ends up in a bonus category on another card. I really want to get a couple of their business cards but Chase is much pickier than Amex on business cards so I need to figure out how to make it legit.
