While I don't agree with this, it's probably better that the tax payers money gets spent on its own people rather than sending billions to ukraine and other countries for no good reason. It is our money.

maybe the SCOTUS should do the same thing we did in regards to woe vs wade and decide the federal government should stay out of the educational loan business.
No one will give you a 'loan' for something when you have no way to pay it back, until the government says they will force them to pay it back. The whole reason tuitions are up is because everyone with a pulse is able to get a loan for their useless degree that gives them no marketable skills.

The government literally creates money / debt obligations (through the 'independent corporation' FED blah blah). The only thing that gives that money value is that you have to use USD to pay taxes.
They type whatever numbers they want on a computer screen, transfer it electronically to the schools computer screen, and you are on the hook for paying it back +interest. So they subtract 10k from your outstanding balance? Guess what? They will still make more money over the life of all of the loans based on the aggregate total of all loans issued vs. P&I aggregate for all loans received.
p.s. just lmao at your simpleton 'smart' and 'dumb' people analysis. You act as though there aren't college educated people that took out student loans in useful majors with the intention of paying them back are 'dumb' & attribute uneducated people as being smart.... Double you Oh Double you. I can't even.

First, it is not a "spend," it is a loan. As you point out, you get a note receivable in return, with an interest rate. A safe investment. You exchange one asset on the balance sheet (cash) for another asset (note receivable).
A "write off" doesn't just magically make things disappear from an accounting perspective. There is a corresponding debit (expense) on the liability side of the ledger when you write something off. So you can absolutely look at it as an expenditure.

The legal issue is whether exec branch can unliterally take broad and sweeping actions that are ostensibly within the purview of ageneral mandate from congress, without aspecific mandate from congress. A SCOTUS case this summer struck down a similar executive branch action. So the big question is will this get struck down for the same reason.
JFL if you think the SCOTUS that had the audacity to overturn Roe v Wade (which was totally potato move by SCTOUS, IMO), won't strike down this forgiveness.

Remember when the Republicans lost GA over not even a couple G's in stimmies? Imagine you're a dad with 2 kids and someone says vote for me, Ill give you MINIMUM 20k off your families debt or 40k if your kids qualified for Pell Grants. Yeah, a lot of people will give you a vote for the prospect of 40k...

I don't think congress is yet at the point where they would do this, even if dems win midterms. I mean, they already have majority, but Biden had to do it via executive action to satisfy the gimmechit army b4 midtems. With that said, I just hope ppl are judicious enough to slow things down so SCOTUS doesn't strike this down until AFTER midterms

They have Americans upset arguing with each other over people who went to college to better themselves and have debt. Send a bazillion bucks to Ukraine and nobody bats a fookin eye (nobody is talking about 'specific mandates' with relation to that), but give an American some relief and holy chit.

Liberals vote on feelings like children. Dems dont have to actually fulfill their promises, just make the adult children feel like daddy govnt cares about them. When all daddy govnt really wants to do is fuk their mom.
