I lost all faith when i realized grandpa joe decided to arm nazis. Also realized this isn't a free country when I saw them censor and smear Tulsi and when the Hunter Biden laptop turned out to be real and not some qanon bs. I have absolutely zero faith in our media and government anymore. I just don't care. I will actively vote in a moron like Trump just to hopefully hurt the foreign policy establishment enough to stop them from starting WW3 and also to dismantle the insane aggregation of power that is the deep state and its corporate media allies.

The real freedom loss is coming from loss of free speech and press. Corporate media has taken control of both, and brainwashing and groupthink is now causing people to self censor. I've had friends of decades react with programmed visceral hatred in response to me implying NYTimes and WaPo are covering up the fascism in Ukraine and failing to cover the debate among IR scholars on this war and how best to respond.

A similar thing happened with covid where legitimate doubts regarding the origins of the virus were being erased. It was only after really looking at the concerns of other scientists who were being censored as well as some of the DARPA leaked documents that I realized there was more going on than the media and even the mainstream scientific community was telling people.

Example: The town square test. Can you go out to town square and yell a controversial political opinion without being harmed physically? No. No you cannot. This is a fear country. Not a free country.

Try yelling about helping the Ukrainians being wrong or being pro Trump in some parts of the country. Try criticizing CRT. Watch what happens to your job. Watch your friends turn on you. You may even get shot depending on where you are. That's not freedom. If you have to dramatically self censor your views, that is not freedom.

People not even looking for jobs, and this what is being called "silent quitting" is a result from people just feeling it's not worth it because they can't get ahead. That even if they have less that their own personal time is worth more so they will just learn to live without money. Politicians just see a low unemployment rate, and then they see good numbers here and there caused by things like the overinflated housing market and a few people making enormous amounts of money so they think everything is just fine. It's not.

I'm a patriot and believe in traditional american values. Things have taken a turn for the worst but I have hope for a cultural shift in the future. Do the best you can and be honest. If you have a negative mindset and give up/add to the darkness you're only adding to the quickening of our countries downfall. Get married and buy that house in the woods. Build a garden and get yourself some chickens. Turn off the TV and seperate yourself from that which is bad for you.

Capitalism has done a great job historically generating wealth and increasing productivity. I personally believe it remains a powerful motivator on the grounds of human nature. The US is an economic powerhouse, yet the benefits of the great gains in productivity continue to go into the pockets of the ultra-wealthy capitalists. No one on this forum is one of them. It's appalling that we are more productive than ever before, yet we face having a lower standard of living than the previous generation. There is zero reason, besides the blatant self-interest of the capitalist class, that the average working person should need to work as hard as they do, for as little as they make and still face the prospect of never retiring. Americans should not have to worry about being crippled by medical or education debt driven by dysfunctional rent-seeking structures, our infrastructure and transportation systems should be not be an embarrassment to the first world and the fruits of your labor should be more evenly distributed amongst the people that you know, do the work.

More capitalism can't and won't fix these issues because none of it generates short-term profit, the ONLY motive that is sacrosanct. To help correct for the perverted motives and inequality that capitalism causes, socialist ideals advocate for expansion of government programs to realign the incentives more in favor of the general public good. Universal healthcare removes the ridiculous employer-driven health insurance system by removing value-destroying insurance companies and focusing on outcomes instead of cost. Properly funding higher education to be highly subsidized or even free removes the student loan industry and provides for an even more educated and productive workforce. Yes, these changes cost more money in the short-term and will result in tax increases. But at least you have something to show for your tax money, especially for supposedly living in the most wealthy and prosperous country in the world.

None of this means government is perfect, free from corruption or more "efficient" (from a capitalist lens).
