You wasted 9 years of your life with this broad without anything to show for it other than making her sad afterward. You have nothing to be proud of. You obviously still care about her or you wouldn't have made a show about it in front of her.
I hope you waste less time in the future by either dropping girls you don't love or by starting a family with one.

I went back and read, and honestly Shutting this down.
The extreme negativity, mysogany, hate, and pure idiocy a lot of you "men" post here daily truly makes me cringe Irl.
The reality here is: OP found a woman he loves and wanted to marry. Did it in an unconventional venue, and was a success. Good for him! Don't be such a negative ******* for the sake of beig a dick...
The insane amount of comments degrading women also has to stop. I'll begin mass banning for those comments when I see them. So knock it off.
OP has more life experience than the vast majority of the misc, with the average age being around 22, and knows his relationship better than anyone here. Who the fuk are you to tear him down? Get a life. Truly.
OP. I wish you the best of luck. It sounds like you've found a winner.

No way? What are the chances because My ex and I split a couple years ago. We still have mutual friends who we both keep in contact with and it was our friend's birthday the other night, so we all went out for dinner and drinks. I honestly hold no ill will or resentment toward her. If I did, I wouldn't have gone out with her being there. I think she can tell that I'm completely over our relationship and it bothers her. It must really hurt her ego that I got over us so quickly. We were together for 9 years and lived together for 8. When we split, I was down for about a month, then got it together and moved on, and have been happy ever since. I slept around for about a year, and now I'm just doing me and not worrying about what comes. I'm good.
Anyway, she was acting weird all night trying to joke with me and talk to me in front of everyone - basically acting like we were still together. I thought it was ****ing weird, so I was ignoring her the best I could, giving her one word answers, changing the subject, and being on my phone. After a while, I think she got frustrated with this, and somehow the subject or married life came up. She then made some comment like "I'm glad I'm not his wife anymore" or "I'm glad I don't have to deal with him anymore" - something to that effect, I'm not sure if the exact wording because I was on my phone.
Everyone kind of chuckled and she had this look like she was proud of herself, thought she had rattled off a real zinger. So in response, not even looking up from my phone, I said "you were never my wife'. The table kind of went quiet and she said what? In an almost soft tone. Then I looked up at her and said "if I wanted to marry you, I would have", and then took a sip of my wine and resumed my attention at my phone.
This was THE issue we fought about during our relationship and all our friends know this. She constantly badgered me to get married throughout our relationship and I never felt ready, mostly because she was a **** and I didn't trust her (I was right in the end). After a few seconds of silence, she got up and stormed out. I stayed at the table and my bro said I should maybe go talk to her. I said I'll give it a few minutes to cool down.
I then continued on my phone (was messaging a woman I've been seeing). I asked her what she was doing tonight and she said she wasn't doing anything and asked if I wanted to come over. I then told her to call me in a couple minutes. I finished my drink , then headed outside.
My ex was out there smoking and looking like she was crying (lol). I went and stood beside her and bathed in the silence. She was expecting me to console her. Just then, my "not yet gf" called, I picked up and made sure to turn up the call volume right away. She said "are you coming over? I could use you tonight" all sexy and flirty. I said I'd be there in 20 minutes and told her I can't wait to see her and hung up. There were cabs across the street waiting, so I walked over and tapped the window and the driver motioned for me to get in.
As the cab pulled off, I looked at my ex still standing there, and she looked right into my eyes, and I could see how hurt she was. The Masquerade was up. She was the one who still cared, not me, despite her telling our friends that she left me, that she could do better, and all kinds of other ****. As the cab rolled through the streets, I felt a calm, warm euphoria wash over me as I wondered if she went back in, and if so, what she told them.

I'm on her side.
Just fuking LMAO@ staying with a girl for 9 fuking years and making her waste her entire 20s on you, aka her prime years where she could have bagged her best possible husband. Of course she's salty as hell man. You say you didn't trust her but that's just BS. Any woman who didn't love you would never have stayed a decade and begged for years for your ring.
Also, sounds like you're a chit friend too. Brb at a social event with your friends and spending all night on your phone like a rude kunt. You know you hurt your ex and she left the room. Instead of leaving it be you orchestrate an azzhole plan to hurt her much more than she deserved, then you fuking left the party abruptly without a care to your friends and the host.
Then you come to brag to the misc with an essay to make it look like you won some moral victory. You're just a kunt man.

"I honestly hold no ill will or resentment toward her"
I read the entire post. I'm sorry but the way you acted towards her through the entire night tells a different story.
With that being said as long as you're happy now it doesn't really matter.

Yeah bro, you seem totally over her by this wall of text. Coming home buzzed after not smashing new girl, and immediately dear diarrhea'ing all over the misc.
