No, their population is controlled by habitat and disease generally

Population booms till they eat all the shoreline browse, start fighting for habitat, then get more deisease communicable diseases like tularemia, then Population crashes.

Removing a certain percentage annually ensures a steady Population.

Beavers are cute. But they benefit from some population control.

In the past 10 years or so, science has been using beavers to fix drought stricken areas and such. These little creatures can completely change landscapes.

It's gotten to the point, beavers are being used specifically to fix ecosystems that humans have destroyed, to make them green and wet again.

The old way of thinking, that beavers can be pests, is outdated. They're a huge plus for nature.

Not sure if I am okay with OP killing that many beavers.

Beavs arr great at creating wetlands and habitat for a variety of species. They were extirpated out of a great deal of their range. Areas without beavers need to have them reintroduced 100 percent.

Areas with established beaver populations benefit greatly from management.

Traplines in ontario have been taking the same numbers of beaver off their traplines since the 60s. The last thing we want is fewer beaver. When populations go past the lands carrying capacity, the population has huge swings. Way too many, then none. Nature will regulate its self through starvation and disease, but it's pretty cruel.

They are essential species for a healthy ecosystem, pests at times, and a resource.

I think you might not realize how many we have here. At any given time, I can have a hundred active beaver lodges on my line alone. That density extends throughout much of ontario as well.

Harvest is done through careful annual analysis of population and is agreed upon by the government. I HAVE to trap beaver or the government will take my line and give it to someone else.

Our trapping model differs from the US, where nothing is managed well. Fifteen trappers can just trap the hell out of an area with no thought for population in the US, whereas I can monitor my land and trap accordingly

Oh you're in Canada and have a different management system. Yeah, we messed ours up in the USA and had to backtrack to fix the mistakes. Very pleased to see you are well versed on how important Beavers can be

You should make a YT channel, a lot of people would watch your land adventures and population management and explaining everything and your interaction with the land and hunting and everything

Yes. They're actually hideous creatures. They only look cute in cartoons and maybe some well taken pictures. In reality they're giant rats with nasty orange teeth. In the dark when they're swimming, you just see a big black hump, like a giant rat. I had beavers destroying my property before and had to remove them. Couldn't believe how ugly they actually are. Always had the image from TV / school that they're these cute little animals. Absolutely not the case.

Skin, stretch and dry hides, ship hides to auction.

They have large glands near their ass that are used in the perfume and food industry that we sell for up to $150/lb. Its put in lots of gummies and stuff, vanilla flavoring, and stuff as "natural flavors". Also used for perfume.

Take some meat off em, and use the rest for bait or trapping coyotes and fisher.

In Canada hundreds of thousands of them are trapped annually, and it is regulated as commercial harvest. Some estimates claim we have over 12 million beavers country wide. Thats like...around a third of our population lol.

is it possible to get your job at the age of 32? I work in finance but I have experience shooting, camping for a week at a time and I spent a summer using a .22 and setting snares for muskrats when I was 15
How did you get into this career? Do you have a job title? Who pays you?

Lots of questions but you're living my dream. Usually you're on recharge for me but i was able to rep you for this thread.
