This. One of my buddy's is Navajo and this comment is spot on. His family is full of druggies/alcoholics and every one of his sisters and female cousins have been victims of physical and sexual assault. He hated his own family because it's constant drama and struggles. His only way out of the Rez was to join the military. His family called him a coward for leaving but then had the nerve to ask for money.

He said nope to it all and married a white chick so he can live in peace.

Average incomes of like under $3k/year are going to put you in conditions that will dictate that you have a much different life experience than the average suburban kid.
