I went this route lol. Got an AA. Considering going back to maybe move up the ladder. Not sure if spending the extra effort and $$$ is worth it considering I have 90% of what I want and everything I need right now.

I'd focus on climbing the ladder through experience. It's more powerful than reading books. Then take the classes to fill in any holes in your experience. Its also much easier to learn through books this way. If you try learning by reading first, it's alot harder to digest new concepts. Essentially this is the problem with our current education system lol.

This is 100% true. My AA was in a trade actually, and while I did learn and did get the piece of paper that proved it, I could have spent zero dollars and 6 months to learn what I needed to learn. Not that it wasn't a valuable experience, but seriously all I wanted to be was a damn tech (high ambitions lol) and yet 90% of class was spent doing load calcs and learning such a broad scope of HVAC that no one person could really use all of it. The program was spaced in such a way that getting a simple refrigeration cert took exactly as long as if I got the whole degree. I didn't know any better but now can see an apprenticeship would have been way way better.

Apprenticeship are superior. But you always want to be better than your master eventually, and that can only usually be achieved through formal schooling, which many tradies don't go to. They think that experience is enough. Generally yes, but schooling makes you much more well rounded.

Formal training is important & always preferred by an employer; imagine going to a surgeon that learned "on the job" & couldn't tell a spleen from a liver

Theory must be learned before practice, diving in is how people learn bad habits & wrong doings; not ideal when you're talking about other's property..

They probably make a bit less unless they start a company, and most won't do that.

Owning even a small construction company in the right field can make millions. There's a massive demand for labor and a shortage of it so you can almost charge whatever you want.

Ok ****gits. I'm a tradie (lineman) I have been making 300k since I was 26. Most I ever made was 350 dead srs. But I spent my life at work.
Average trades make under 100k a year, unless you got a union job with a good contractor and loads of ot
Having your company you pretty much work as a 1 man show or deal with a bunch of lazy drunks, any good tradie tries to start a company. It's not as easy as they say

No executive means you have management experience and are working full time while pursuing the degree part time. Executive is also a lot more expensive usually.

It my case, Canadian state university, it was about 24 month in person every other weekend type of thing with no vacations.

Hard as **** cause you have a full work week then go Friday Saturday Sunday to class…Something like 40% drop out rate.

Some older folk literally didn’t make it heart attack in the middle of the program etc
