They're not Christian out here, they're Mormon. There's more Mormons per capita in Boise than Salt Lake.They're basically the Rocky Mountain Mafia with 6 kids each, and you've got to be born into it.

But if you are, oh lawd. They will hook you up with free tire changes at Mormon body shops, they will hook you up with 5 figure discounts on Mormon built homes, you can get seats in city government positions, you get fast-tracked for promotion at Mormon-run businesses. The magic underwear tribe is strong.

Just remember to tithe 10% of your gross income every month or they'll put your name up on the wall at the ward. This chit is pay to play.

Do they believes some strange stuff IMO? Yep.

But if you want to marry into a solid tribe the Mormons seem to be one of the best options; look out for each other, value family, and literally religious about prepping.

If you lose your job, can you find something in Boise?

Place is expensive if you don't buy home in cash.

It's sour grapes though. There's a 0% chance I'd be single if I was born Mormon, the church would have set me up with someone by now.

I grew up with Mormon neighbors and they were great. We went through some tough times and they were the most supportive people you can imagine.

Was born here, own house here. Its nice and clean, much cleaner than most cities. Back when I used to never think of politics I liked downtown and the north end, but now that I know its all filthy libs I like the west Boise, Meridian better. Way Way more conservative and i don't have see all their virtue signaling "in this house we believe" signs in our yards. I did very well here when single and had fun. But am married now with a kid.

You can ski/board close to town, great biking trail city, hunt close to town (with 900k others). Winters seem to be getting colder and longer, but usually are fairly mild, spring/summer/fall is great here. Not much rain.

They are going absolutely wild building apartments, like every open field has some massive new complex, so there are options there. Obviously the housing market went wild I bought a house for 260k in west Boise 4 years ago, and at the peak (probably like 6 months ago) I could have sold it in a day for 750k. They have dropped back to where its worth like 600k again in last 6 months. Nothing is moving, most of the houses for sale around me have been on the market for like 3 months now.

Most of the Cali's moving here are actually conservatives leaving lib states despite the hatred they get. Granted it's not just Cali. On my last team at work I had 12 people, 11 were not from Boise. Had 2 from Seattle, Oklahoma City, Manhattan, Wisconsin, 2 Cali, Oregon.

Didn't say I have a problem with them, just that their beliefs are kind of odd.

- no brown drinks
- brush after any food
- long underwear all the time
- young people have to go on a mission/knock doors
- ceremonies of some kind to "save" people that are deceased

IMO go to Boise, rent for a year, and then reevaluate. Housing prices may still be on the downslide.

If you want access to a decent sized City, Boise or somewhere along the Wasatch front in Utah would be pick from your choices. Personally, I'm a small town, or better yet country, kind of guy. If I could live anywhere my top picks would be northern Idaho, western Montana, or Wyoming close to mountains (vs close to sagebrush). I like Utah, for scenery and outdoor opportunities, but I prize seclusion when I'm in the great outdoors and I think that's easier to get in the states I've listed.

They will happily accept you into their religion if you choose to join.

You do develop a fairly big social circle so it is easier to get opportunities.

Only the churches leadership really knows if you are paying the 10% and net vs gross is a bit up to how you feel about it. However, I would never do it as they don't disclose church financials and any charity I would ever donate to must do that.

I mean the religion is a load of chit, but for all of that it does build a solid community.As a former mormon let me enlighten you.

They don't HAVE to, but it is encouraged. When I was still a kid I would use the word "Strongly", but according to my younger brother it isn't as bad anymore

The religion was created by a con-man but objectively most of the things they believe in are no less crazy than any of the other more traditional religions.

It is a lot dryer than the west side, but not like the desert areas you are looking at otherwise.

The politics are still very left. Even outside of Spokane. During peak COVID it was shocking how different stores were that were 5 minutes apart. One store you would get yelled at for no mask. The same store just on the Idaho side was 90% unmasked.

IDK about the list. And maybe the brown drinks and brushing thing was a joke or just a particular group. I worked in an office where the head of HR and his staff were mostly Mormon and I was told they could drink Sprite, but not coke/dr. pepper/pepsi. Maybe it was caffeine, not color. The brushing thing was a gal I found often brushing in the office toilets which I'm sure is great dental hygiene, but just seemed kinda icky to me.

Yeah they are kind of anti-caffeine though that is more of a guideline vs a rule.

No worries, there are a lot of weird Mormon things. I just prefer people know what they actually believe. Makes it easier for those raised as a Mormon to leave if the critical view points are actually accurate.

Probably. Would be easier in Seattle, Phoenix, Bay Area. (Tech / aerospace is my background)

That's actually not a bad idea. Would probably be a wash in terms of rent vs mortgage payments, but would give you a year of flexibility.

Phoenix is the most appealing to me TBH, but it's just really crowded and not the place to go for skiing. There is mountain biking there, but I imagine it isn't fantastic.
