Not a chain recommendation but if you like Mexican food the food trucks are the goat. Srs

Try a torta with a Mexican coke from one of them for lunch or dinner. U won’t be disappointed

Taco trucks are hit and miss. I've been to dozens of Taco Trucks in the top half of the state and a few in the bottom half. There's definitely good ones out there, but I've definitely been disapointed too.

Olive Garden is kind of plain. A lot of older folks like it there.

I always try to eat at the non-chain restaurants when I travel.

When I went to Arizona I ate at a lot of off the wall Mexican places but I love Mexican food. A few places spoke absolutely no English and even had homemade horchata. I loved it.

If you're going to be in the Sacramento area:

California Fish Grill

Koja Kitchen

Smashburger

Fire Wings (if only to try the peanut butter wings)

Cheesecake factory

Tower Cafe (brunch menu)

The Porch

Firehouse Crawfish

Chasons Crab Stadium
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

You absolutely need to try the Mexican and Asian food when in California, plus the classics. This is the list I’d go with:

In & Out, Applebees, Panda Express, Taco Johns, PF Changs, Chili’s, Olive Garden

You need to try cheesecake factory, although since the pandemic every meal I've had there has been a huge disappointment.

Chipotle is good too, much better than some of the dirty taquerias here who serve food poisoning in a tortilla. California burritos are overrated as is fusion food like sushiritto, poke bowls, ching Chong food.

Try a dirty dog, it's a hot dog wrapped in bacon with grilled onions and veg and commonly found outside nightclubs.

The ones that are faded with a plain Mexican name (example-Taqueria de Garcia), run by a fat woman that calls you "mijo" that's got her kids as employees is where you wanna go. Not some hipster that started a truck with a clever name, splashy paint job and selling some stupid "fusion" chit.
