before I left the dealers tradie life I was able to drive a r35 trade in and I believe it was an 800hp car and holy fuk is it scary to have that much power under your foot and also how easily it is to lose control because it is pretty much a rocket on wheels.

Hope the tradie is alright, and if he is young learned a hard lesson.

That is why they are so damn hard to find. Glad I still have mine and let no mechanic work on it unless I trust them fully.

From the title, I thought it was going to be the MK5 which have been no loss.

But previous models, yes. Collector items for sure.

Most people don't have the skills to drive powerful RWD cars without this happening SRS
Driving a vehicle with that much power on cold tires and cold road, I doubt very few people could handle it once the turbo spools. That car would likely be hard to handle at 90 degrees and slicks.

My car is a completely different animal on cold pavement and only 500hp/450tq.

If he has any sense, yes he would have special insurance coverage for a collectible. I insured mine for double what it's worth, and it's cheaper than normal insurance. I made sure to cover the parts installed and hours I've put into it. Even then, I question whether double the value is enough. There's small stipulations like not driving it to work. It's a weekend warrior, so no issue there.

I'd assume the insurance company at fault would have to honor the value you insured it for.

I've had two people doing basic body work that drove it after I told them not to. Even left them with an empty tank, and they filled a tich thinking I wouldn't notice.

You almost had me? You never had me - you never had your car... Granny shiftin' not double clutchin' like you should. You're lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake! You almost had me?

Now, me and the mad scientist got to rip apart the block... and replace the piston rings you fried.

It depends on their insurance coverage. If the size of the business is small, they may not have auto coverage that covers people on the job and it's not a company vehicle so auto likely doesn't cover it anyway, however, umbrella may cover it in the event the owner's insurance would sue. You're making too many assumptions and/or don't understand insurance coverage for businesses. If I were the business I sure as hell wouldn't want that claim on the record. Due to the negligence of the driver and how that should be non-standard procedure of the business, I really doubt the company will take responsibility.

But what do I know...

Pretty much this.

At least that’s what I’d think. No way insurance will pay what it’s actually worth with the money he’s probably got invested in it.

He drove

No idea about this specific car, but many people put tons of money and mods into more power and then throw on some generic coil-overs to lower it and call it a day. Those frames were not designed to handle 3 or 4 times the stock power, lowered incorrectly causes bump steer, etc etc. It really takes a holistic approach to build a car that is still balanced and can safely handle the extra power.
