Well fairly depressing. Very unorganized and no one knows anything. I was also the only white person there but that doesn’t bother me. Usually that means it will be laid back. The place is literally 1 mile from my place so that is good and they are doing 10 hour days so I’ll rack up. I’m going to do I as long as I can.

I’m in the Memphis area. Sone places do but it’s hard to find out about them. Most go through a temp service now unless you know someone. We have a lot of criminals in this area and people who just work a week and quit. Kind of ruined jobs like this. Most of them aren’t even safe for like a normal person or a normal female to work at. Sucks because I had an awesome job at a place called Williams Sonoma and I had been there forever and I got fired for no reason. Still debate getting revenge on sone of those people. Then I had a union job on a dock which was probably the best job on earth and they laid me off at thanksgiving. I was worried about going to these random places but who knows. I have my gym and a job within 1 mile of me now so this could be a blessing

Lmao. I wish. The thing is I was always good at finding a good job. I’ve been blessed so there was no point in pursuing anything. I tried personal training and cooking but people choose pretty girls or the popular guy so that was a depressing fail. I’m actually ok with having a normal job but 3 damn jobs in a row I’ve been screwed over and now I feel the pain having to start out with a bunch of 20 year olds. I have been a lead and a supervisor before but I really don’t like doing that. The days are long and I do t like firing people because someone above me told me to.

Getting jobs in my life has been hard.I grew up in the old days when racist was pretty much allowed and I have a long polish mane. I was pretty much treated like crap everywhere I went. I was wanting to get my cdl. I already am a professional dock worker. Then I could just drive and not have to worry about people. I’ve always liked warehouse jobs because the pay is decent and you get your hours but I’ve noticed as the generations pass the type of people in this country get lower and lower. Like peopje getting robbed at work and if I told people the stuff I e seen in the last few years while at work they wouldn’t believe me.

I had to drive to that job on 3 different days over a 5 week pattern. In that pattern they told me I HAD to be there at this place and at this time, no ifs buts or anything. The first was the weirdest 3 hour online test I've ever seen in my life. From online wire tracing, to fractions, to telling the computer which pulley was actually the "lead" pulley, back to division and multiplication problems...

the 2nd visit was a physical examination, which turned out to be some navy seal endurance tests. First test, disassemble and reassemble a water meter in 1 minute and 30 seconds. They show you how to do it ONE time, then if you fail you are OUT. You're on your hands and knees with like 50 people watching you btw. You get ONE SHOT at this WHILE only seeing someone do it for the FIRST TIME ONE TIME.

first guy fails IMMEDIATELY, I mean he didn't even get disassembled before the time was up. I passed with 1.5 seconds on the clock and heard a sigh of relief through everyone.

next test, need to dig a hole so many feet wide and so many feet deep. 24 minutes, no breaks, go.

third test, saw through some damn near steel pipe nearly 2 inches thick. You got 3 minutes, handsaw, go. Failed miserably, hand and arm could not move for a solid 8-10 minutes of cramping. Worst pain I've ever experienced in my life. Thankfully that was the third test I had gotten to, so I could repeat it.

4th test, move sand bags back and forth, 80 feet this way, 80 feet back. You got like 7 minutes to make it some miserable amount of times back and forth.

pass the third test, so I qualify for an "interview."

"interview" is no interview. They ask me the stupidest 4 questions I've ever heard in my life. I immediately think this is way to simple so I give them a delicate and intricate answer to both rather than the 2 sentences that I would have normally told someone.

fail the interview, immediately disqualified fail with a 52.0 out of 100.0 thanks for trying kthnxbye

Warehouse work is underated. It's fun as hell flying around the warehouse in walkie riders or midriders. Pro-tip, if you have Crowns you can easily unlock speed controls with the last four digits of their phone number lol. Pay is decent if you get in with a good company. I was making $28/hr in CA, $22 in NE before I transferred to tech work. Everyone at my company chits on warehouse work, but I dug every minute of it. If you wanna go driver route just get your CDL ASAP, lliterally every company around me is desperate for drivers. If you want local, apply for jobs with manufacturers that ship to stores like food, beverage, beer companies for example. Some people say you have to go OTA first for experience but you can haul local and be home from the get go.

Super easy money and I’ve heard they’ve actually started to pay decent these days.
Brb show up on a construction site where everyone is breaking their back, take a density test or concrete/asphalt sample and roll.
Can’t tell you how many times I was asked if you needed schooling to work there.

Misc is gonna Misc but those srs trying to cast shade on OP's accomplishment, that's just showing their own insecurities. Now you have a skill set you can always fall back on. You're young and have lots of potential. Just a stepping stone but master it for now.

Big misconception about trades are that people think that any idiot that couldn't even get through 9th grade can easily go out and make bank when that is far, far from the truth. I'd say that most trades hold a higher standard than a lot of professions. If a doctor and a forklift driver made the same amount of errors, the forklift operator would be fired, but the doctor would get promoted. If an electrician made as many errors as the average doctor, he would be fried. Don't even get me started on lawyers when it comes to incompetence.

Different thing each day. Today I monitored mercaptan levels in the gas system most of the day (monthly compliance work to make sure you can smell it if theres a gas leak. Gas is actually odorless and we have to add mercaptin to make it smell), ran a gas leak call, and upsized an industrial meter set and increased gas pressure into the building to accommodate their btu load. Normal work would include gas leak calls, carbon monoxide calls, responding to hit lines and blowing gas situations, house fires, locating gas lines, meter exchanges, meter turn ons and turn offs, lots of appliance repairs (furnace, boilers, water heaters, AC), other stuff too but thats the mostly common stuff.

I’ve had a ton of jobs. Even tried the electrician trade. Was pure hell. Was only making ten dollars an hour. Warehouse jobs are good if you get the right one. I mainly hope this one works out because it’s a mile away but it looks like crap. If you can find I’ve that has plenty of lifts and space to work it’s good but now these companies hire 30 people and have 8 lifts and you have to fight over them everyday. They are like jails too because of all the criminals now. Peopje stealing so no phones and have to walk through metal detectors. Sucks. At least 4 astronauts lit up before coming in today. I’m pretty sure they will drug test us tomorrow

They all are. I liked my job at a furniture hub. There was a lot of labor but I had my own reach truck and my own aisle. Like literally I would jam Metallica all day and do put away sand then pick orders. We also had our own cherry pickers and sit downs if we had to. It was an action packed job. Then we got sone new hr from Denmark out of nowhere and she came to our hub and said she wanted all of the employees to vote for an employee of the month. There’s like 100 people too and they voted for me. I was like I’ll probably get a lead job now but instead the following Monday she terminated me. Like I got this award and then she terminated me. I see on her LinkedIn she has all sorts of posts about firing your best workers and people shouldn’t stay at jobs too long and all sorts of bs. Think she is a big liberal with personal views but I really liked that job. The managers and leads there are who should be fired

Demand for people willing to work is so bad they are hiring and paying anyone and everyone. Probably won't drug test them because if they do they will have to fire them. If they are fired they will just go down the road and get another job. Now your company will just hire the one's the other company fired last week. Honestly a little slow down would be good for business.
