My company doesn't even have enough room for all employees. All of our C-suite and upper management is out of state as well. We'll never be in office. It's already hard enough to fill roles for high skills, so I doubt it'll end any time soon for my company anyway.

Doomers on misc. are constantly showing jealousy and hope it ends. Doesn't mean it'll happen.

I do software development and even in the office 90% of "collaboration" is through Slack. You don't just get up and bother people when you have a question and break their thought process (especially if it isn't critical). The meme it's a bunch of un showered nerds all sitting in a room on beanbag chairs with lattes and Macbooks is far from the truth. Even most game studios are an "office" environment (yes they have expensive in office playgrounds but work is work). The only time being in a group has been super productive is trying to whiteboard something out. But we sub that out with a group Slack call and and online whiteboard. The advantage of the online whiteboard is we can actually save them as images right there and insert them into Confluence instead of taking pictures on a phone and uploading them manually. For the most part the only people in software development that want people in office are the managers so they can do something to justify a job.

Threads like this just remind me of tradie cope and a future that they will never be able to have.

My manager works fully remote in a different state. I'm one of the most productive on my team at my current level. I work in IT infrastructure so it's a lot of break fix with projects sprinkled in. So if **** ain't broke, their isn't much for me to do. Not like I'm doing data entry for 8 hours and deciding to fuk off for 4 of them.
