I always knew how the pieces moved and basics from age 5 because Russia lol but it was in college when I read a few books, and played with a buddy of mine, because we were desperately bored at lectures, then Internet happened with icc so I played there.

Nobody in thread said they were smart because of chess. It is a game.

I'm not going to explain the intricacies of how chess still has positions never documented or studied.
