If George had drawn, aimed at Martin's cranium and put 3 rounds through it, it would have been completely justified.

What actually happened is that Martin, while beating the chit out of him, attempted to take George's gun from its holster. George got to it first and shot his assaulter, fortunately ending Martin's life.
