Just read some SA news, see reddit etc. Yes, load shedding is incredibly sad to see, and it's the biggest indicator of the mismanagement of the country. Service delivery is sporadic in some areas for sure, but generally, load shedding is the only outage, and it runs on schedule. I didnt have one issue with water or garbage collection, internet etc, the entire time I was there, though I was in a upper middle class area. Just get that app I mentioned, and add your area, you'll see the outage times for each stage. When I was there, it was about 8 total hours of outage a day, but spread out, early morning, late at night. Its different in each area. South Africans are used to it really, it's disheartening, but nothing new. Nobody is freaking out about some doomsday scenario just yet.

Being there for six months seems dangerous because you could end up getting comfortable around savages and end up in the wrong place or eating food that is garbage.

I would stick to white places and avoid drinking.

I would try to not stick out and just blend in.

Yeah, just be careful about the area and where you walk, especially in Joburg. I was there for 6 months in 2018 for research work and got mugged at knife point in daylight (street kids). The neighborhood can change quickly.

Also, don't listen to this sheltered retard. Aside from that one incident I had, it was a great time, wine tasting, safari, beaches in Cape Town, and tons of restaurants and bars with the locals. Drinking is fine.

Had a Christian uncle go there to start some commerce, he said it was the single worst experience of his life, and was just horrified. Said he'd never recommend a person go there and that was a decade ago when it was way safer and ran by a competent group of people...

Imagine now that astronauts are in charge.

I would expect someone who enjoys his dink touching another man's dink in cuck fashion to make a decision like going to Africa for 6 months.

I wouldn’t listen to this. I have a lot of SA friends I can connect you with if you have questions. Or you can talk to my inlaws who live in jo’berg and Durban mainly. Jo’berg and Cape Town are completely different worlds. Cape Town is an outdoorsy area while jo’berg is all about culture and the night life. You are much more likely to get robbed or killed in jo’berg. Stay safe OP.

Yeah, I don't disagree with that. Cape Town is a coastal tourist city and much safer (I was mugged in Joburg). You can still have a good time in Joburg if you're careful and safe. What exactly did I write that was false?

Johannesburg is a literal chithole. I went for a walk during the day in the Central Business District, and literally turned around and walked back to my accommodation because I thought I was going to get robbed.

It's pretty social and fun in South Africa. I'm guessing he is just busy and not really thinking about the misc much. I was in South Africa by myself for about 6 weeks, and only went on misc like 3 times during that span.
