I can make that in a week. Sometimes more and probably sometimes less too. Just depends on the volume and what type of work is done.

I have hard time believing all these ballers pulling in that kind of money have such high post counts on the misc lol

reminds me of that lamborghini motto saying they don't have tv ads because their target audience doesn't sit around and watch tv

maybe they should start advertising on the misc

$100k can feel like very different amounts depending on your location and local cost of living, that's still a fukton of money outside of financial centers

I recently joined a sales engineering group and realized I could get some nice sales experience here, but not sure I want to go that route.

I'm deeply technical right now, EE with a power focus. Total comp @ 155, also pull in 20 from stocks every year, so 175k all in
It kind of was for me - I was a laboratory engineer for my company. They purchased a company that expanded our product portfolio with much more sophisticated systems (LiDAR, OTA comms, machine vision, remote condition monitoring, telemetry, etc.) and our sales guys straight up could not discuss it effectively with clients. They pulled two engineers from other departments that they thought would make good salesmen and made them tech sales engineers - myself included.

The hardest parts for me were getting used to and proficient at traveling often, and unsurprisingly, learning sales basics. Effectively uncovering clients' needs or true motives, translating product features into benefits that meet those motives, and doing so in a manner that portrays that you are adding value to them. I thought strong social skills would get me pretty far but it actually won't. You need to have a very structured pre-sales plan, read how to approach different types of clients, and be very organized.

My pay went from in the $80K range to $105K when I got the job, and has incrementally increased from 2019 to 2022 up to like $125K. This year I got a solid raise and am now at more like $150K but that is relatively low for tech sales IME. I work in an industry that mainly needs commodity products, and no one in the business is aware of what Tech sales pay should be. It's slowly catching up though.

The issue is living in California, not the pay. 85% of US households don't make 180K annually.

For most people that's a lot as most peoples living expenses are like $2500/month.

How about visting California instead of living in it?
