The moment you pull down $5 in revenue, your business has "started"

People think it's such a huge undertaking, but it isn't at the beginning.

You can start a business by tomorrow if you wanted.

Most self-employed people struggle because they begin with such a big commitment (debt, rental costs, fancy advertising, etc) at the beginning that they fail under pressure.

One of the best restaurants here in Phoenix started in a fuarking den in an industrial area.... It looked like a literal junkyard. It was the most popular restaurant here for well over 2 years before they moved to a way better location

I'm still a bit out from actually trying to sell anything to the general public. I still need to standardize a recipe and stuff. But make sure to ask me in 3 months bby.

Most not all. The little 2-3 comment spree there sounded pretty jaded to me. Either way yes MOST of the posts are all great. Hope to not be a w2 bro one day in the future. Obviously not planning to quit my IT job after selling a few jars of something.

get in contact with your states small business association (get on the federal one as well), and economic development commission.

They have insane resources that really help out man. Mostly information.

I have taken hundreds of free seminars that cover things like budgeting, marketing, legal aspects of it, and so on and so on, all good info.

Most importantly though, they know where the money is and how to get it to you.

If you need any help setting up and LLC let me know.

It is easy, don’t pay anyone to do it. (You will have to pay to reserve the name and for you EIN, I think all together in my state an LLC cost less than 200 bucks. I have three and have helped countless friends get theirs. there are many reasons to have one, even if you don’t plan on using it to make money, that is for another thread).

Learn about the resources available man. There are many.

What state do you plan on registering if you don’t mind?

Florida

And thnx broski. As others have said im gonna work on actually getting something small going and then scaling it appropriately. In florida to sell pickled foods you need a commercial kitchen, etc etc. This isnt something im willing to do right away so clearly I will have to be on the wrong side of procedures until I get atleast a proof on concept going and a few dollars in sales. Then Im going to worry about the red tape to turn it into a real buisness if it seems viable.

yeah I mean you could make a batch of 10 jars tomorrow and start testing it. Then do the farmers market tour.

If more people perceived "entrepreneurship" as a way of scaling into your passion, more people would try it. I think people see a massive restaurant filled with customers and think, "holy fuk that is a big mountain to climb."

Once again this is not a get rich quick scheme. This is a small passion that I think could profit a few bucks. And more for me to learn about properly running/scaling any sort of business. I do have other skills and hobbies I may be able to leverage into a much more profitable business. This pickled condiment is just an easy example for the sake of argument, also probably the easiest to start and learn with. Also its not "A Pickle" its a condiment I eat with every savory meal possible. And so do alot of other hispanics. I wouldnt expect ur white people taste buds to understand.

It's actually a good start to a restaurant business if you think about it... You could also conceivably sell pickled stuff online.

If you can't sell small level food, then you can't open a restaurant.

Having said that, restaurants seem incredibly difficult to succeed at, but just like every business in the world, some fail, and some succeed wildly.

I feel like with business you'll never know where it truly ends up. I have 0 plans or ambitions of ever owning/running a successful restaurant. Would rather own a food brand srs. But hey if it ended up that way I wouldn't be mad if It made good money.

Here is a bad ass view into how businesses can grow.

This guy started a custom garage modifying old 911's.

Just look at how MASSIVE his garage has gotten....

This video is the garage they used 10 years ago: (skip to 2:50 to see his chitty computer)

This video is their garage now:

Have started, stopped, been successful, and have failed in many businesses. See sig.

My one piece of recommendation: Do not sell any physical product.

It's a huge investment, huge risk, and honestly most products return very slim margins.

Sell services instead.

It's easier to grow a service-based business.

If you get some money behind you from a service-based business, and want to go the physical product route, at least you have something to fall back on.

You just file the necessary paperwork with the secretary of state in Florida. Its as easy as it can be.

I would not take credit card payments early. The compliance required for that is pretty stringent and you open yourself up to cyber crime risk also. Now you are investing in that, buying cyber insurance, etc...

Get insurance/umbrella coverage if whatever you are doing has the slightest legal risk.

Just my humble opinion.

Lmao. I am set on using this as a learning experience as I alrdy have an idea of what I want to push and seeing it fail would still learn me many valuable lessons as far as starting a business goes. Is this what I would put 100% of my effort and resources into if I actually thought working for myself was a viable path toward not being a w2 cuck, no not ideally. As I said I have other skills and ideas. But I need to learn to run a business 1st. And this seems like a low cost startup kind of thing until I get into the commercial kitchen, selling it on shelves kind of territory which it may never get that far.

Totally appreciate the input. Im not going for broke on this. Like I said I have a good 9-5 job with a lot of flexibility. And I have alot of spare time during and after work where I can work on things. Along with no debt and money to play with. I will consider this if I ever get serious about running my own thing.
