I think I get what you're saying better now. I break up athletic ability into strength and explosiveness. When I referred to athletic peak in my post, what I was really talking about was explosiveness. Explosiveness is the first thing to go, strength peaks later. I'd buy that 27 is the peak intersection between strength and explosiveness. Old enough to have filled out a bit on the strength side, but still have that youthful bounciness.

Mid 40's.

Before that 90% of guys have families, stress from work and all the baggage that comes with it. Hard to get into any sort of shape then. hard to even maintain anything.

When the kids leave the wife usually follows so you will have a place to yourself so you can actually just focus on yourself. This is when you can make some actual progress towards your goals whatever they may be.

You can still be good much after that but what happens is injuries start creeping in. So every workout is basically turning in to a starting over thing after a long layoff because of some injury or other. Very frustrataing and wastes a ton of time but not much you can do about it. Can try stretching but then get hurt from stretching. Go without stretching, get hurt from not stretching, just endless.

I wasn't lifting then, I was just regular skinny college chad that was in the cool group, had good fashion sense and was pretty good looking. Realistically all humans peak early / mid twenties.

Using all possible coping mechanisms available, you could get through life thinking you will peak late 30's (size, strength, money, dunno) but this would be it, surely?

40 will hit, then 45. There has to be a deadline. Especially in a culture that values youth.

Generally when the reaper and wrinkles set in. mid 40's is almost always the downhill run. Most begin the downhill run in their late 30's, some earlier. Genetics and lifestyle play the biggest role.

For women, most begin the downhill slide in their mid-late 20's. Fresh, hot young women have no idea the free-ride good life will eventually end.

I remember my first day of Junior High (8th grade) about 13 years old. I looked like a 10 year old boy, and had just moved to the area, so I knew nobody. Walked through the side doors and 2 hot chicks pointed at me and started laughing, then they pointed out the window, giggling, and said "The Elementary school is over there."

I laughed and said "Thanks, I didn't notice it.", and walked to my designated home room.

I wonder where those two broads are now? Probably fat maxxing in front of the View, twice divorced with adult children. Little did they know, nor did I know, that my future wife was just starting Kindergarten on the other side of the World.
