I had Doom 2, honestly didn't care for it all that much (I was never real big on FPS though - and as far as FPS I honestly had a lot more fun with Unreal Tournament).

That aside - I would certainly say it was a high quality game.

I just played through Doom 1 & 2 over the winter; did some mod that allowed it to run @ 4K with all kinds of effects added

9.8/10

There's some beautiful games today but IMO nothing will beat the excitement of 90's gaming. It was a completely new experience and felt so cutting edge. The late 90's especially saw one great title after the next. Graphics improved by leaps in very short periods of time. The boxes were practically artwork by themselves. I still remember going to Best Buy with the hugeeee selection of software. Way better than any candy shop. Doom was very good but for me it was Dark Forces, Duke Nuke'm and Marathon that got me hooked on FPS games.

Early 2000s when AOE2 was on MSNzone was the shyt.

Also, there was an old Viking style meelee game called "Rune" that had Deathmatch. I saw that on Steam, and allegedly there is an active multiplayer community for it again...

Wasn't a fan of the original as you couldn't aim up or down. Was more into Duke Nukem 3D. The modded and updated versions of Doom are fun, though.
