I watched both of my kids being born. I had to interpret. When things get going people forget their non-native language. My wife is Thai, Doctor was Egyptian, assistant was Indian, and I'm American - so translator from Arabic to Thai - that was pretty fun. Oh yeah hospital was in Saudi.

I have five kids, I am very close to all of them and didn't watch a single one being born, didn't cut the umbilical cord nor did I eat any placenta. I stayed above the waist trying to make my wife more comfortable and just gave her encouragement as child birth is the most unnatural natural thing in the world. No filming or making that moment about me with that stupid stuff, just trying to make my wife .0002% more comfortable and letting her know that I appreciated this horrific thing she has to go through. I don't understand dads who pull out their cameras and make the day about them. Sit next to your wife, hold her hand, tell her how good she is doing and just be invisible, there is work being done and you are a bystander.

I was right next to her when both of ours were born, though I didn't observe directly as much when our second was born. I suppose it might be different if you're in a culture where all the community women gather 'round and descend on the woman in labor to help but that's not the case in the west. Fun fact, wife had completely natty births (in the hospital) and was discharged after just one night after our second was born. I don't know if that was planned that way, but we certainly didn't. The nurse kind of surprised us and told us we could all go home together. Later that day my wife walked the dogs and resumed life like normal.

My mum and me were with my wife when she gave birth

First you (or i did) feel ****ing useless cause i am not the type of person who is suited to comfort someone who's crying non stop in pain (despite the fact she had epidural)

The other thing is she literally shat in like a bed pan or something and having to deal with that was not fun

Either way u can stand off to the side.. no need to have a front row seat as the midwife helps pull ur kid out

I actually bounced for large periods (took forever for my son to come out).. and my mum stayed.. and made sure i came back for the birth.. You also have a bunch of other screaming harpies in the background to listen to.. i thought one chick was getting murdered the way she went on for hours

Female doctor looked pissed at me when she asked us if we had sex (this could have only been a few weeks after birth at most) since the birth

IDK if it was due to it possibly slowing her healing or higher risk of conception

Sex felt way different at first but it heals up/tightens pretty quickly

On the one hand I don’t want to see all that, on the other hand my wife has a habit of indoctrinating our pets to love her more since she’s home and around them more, so I’d want to start brainwashing that little ****it to love me more from the get-go

This. Although I'm not sure this specifically has any clown world poison effect. I just think it's not necessary whatsoever. I was there when my wife was in labor trying to deliver my son, that wasn't a pretty picture. It didn't turn me off to her or anything like that, I just really didn't like seeing her like that.

She wound up with a C section though because my kid's huge dome was too big to pass through her birth canal/pelvic bone area or whatever.
