Trump exists in a kind of bizarre New York state of mind. He grew up a member of the billionaire class but never properly fit in with their elites. He also is on record long ago believing in interviews that "you have to take care of people" regarding universal healthcare. All that said, he is firmly in favor of American hegemony and imperialism as can be seen in his attempted coup in Venezuela. There is a duality in Trump in that he is a hateful xenophobic man, but also deep down desires what he thinks is best for America. He is also very self serving. I believe he is accidentally serving Marxist objectives and using Marxist rhetoric. He believes this populism will help him gain power, and he expects the fascist block in his party to get him there, but what is actually happening is it is opening a huge gateway for the left. That's why we have seen support for leftism surge in response to Trump. Socialism is no longer a dirty word. And for revolution to happen, people must distrust the institutions. There is no one in current politics more anti-institution than Trump.

His rhetoric has been a boon to those seeking action against the elites and the deep state. The difference between the protofascist angry young men who scream about the elites oppressing them and the young communists who scream about the elites oppressing them is really thin operationally.

There is a reason Putin likes Trump. It isn't that they agree ideologically. It's that the end consequences of Trump's rhetoric and actions will elicit an outcome favorable to Russia: the end of American imperialism and hegemony.
