^^^That's just one of many...
There's about to be a ton of dead links within the next month though, if something doesn't prevent this purge from commencing.
This is what I'm talking about with how TPTB use certain contrived events, fake news, and elaborate headlines as obstructions to divert attention to things people should be concerned about. People were worried about tik tack toe, whilst behind the scenes imgur and archive.org may be offline for good. Very few people even know what's happening, but they are cognizant and vocal about how tik tok being banned is a threat to free speech.

For just image hosting,https://postimages.org/is better IMO. Not sure if they allow NSFW, but probably.

They are not and never have been the only image hosting site. In fact they became an absolute pain to use a few years ago. Good that now miscers will stop posting on imgur which is absolute chit for viewing on mobile.

Well that sucks. All of the classic misc threads with pics are already dead links, when brahs started using Imgur around 2015 it started to preserve things but now looks like those will be scrubbed too.

It’s likely more about control. Imgur is basically an extension of Reddit.

archive.org isn't shutting down people. STFU about that
archive.org got caught breaking copyright laws, that's it. They will just have to not break them again.

The internet is a vast place and some of it now and historically is bound to have included the unauthorized use of intellectual property. If it means paying some jerkoff or preserving something unique that would otherwise never be seen again, I’m going with the latter.
Archiving history is far more important than arbitrary copyright laws.

Basically, archive.org kicked the hornet's nest when they didn't need to. Nothing bad is going to happen though and they aren't shutting down.
