Don't want to think too hard, but of the last few years the game that has stood out to me was

FF7 Remake

It was one of those games that once I picked up, I couldnt stop playing. Pretty rare thing for me these days.

i played it a bunch and made it to lv30 but it got too repetitive tbh.

- discover new ruins
- go through ruins, get slaughtered by boss
- grind grace for a few hours
- beat dungeon
- go to next area, and repeat

Even with Demon Souls, i played for much much longer. But it's basically the exact same formula. Only difference is that it's open world instead of a having to go through a central hub.
