I had it it my 20s and it started out with a big spot on my back feeling itchy, then the area progressively got red, then the whole thing had water blisters/boils, then they all popped and the whole area was a big scab. It was probably over the course of a few weeks. For years the area was numb because shingles affects the nerves under your skin. It’s the same virus as chickenpox apparently.
