I think that's hard to compare them because they were coming at it from different positions. Comparing two different governors or two different presidents/leaders would make more sense...

You're really going hard on this Desantis praising huh. Are you finally done with the orange clown?
Still I don't have a problem with how he handled it other than minor quibbling. Yeah he locked us down for a month but I don't think that's really a big deal. The point is that he took much more authoritarian measures than trump did, and for longer than trump recommended, so for people that think Desantis is the second coming of Jesus to go hard on criticizing Trump....there's some major mental illness on display.
Desantis became a figurehead by molding himself into Trump 2.0. That's the only reason he has any notoriety at all. If you like him better than Trump I can understand that, but when you attack Trump for chit desantis did himself you just come off looking like a retard.

Nor did I say that stating a fact that Desantis had a 1-month lockdown is rewriting history. It's the clear implication that lockdowns were a major part of his time as Governor, when it was actually minimal - especially when compared to most other states.

Yeah Stizzel this is full retard.
Florida, a state with one of the oldest populations, handled the pandemic better than pretty much anyone.
Pretty much all States were on board with the first 2 weeks with most people still sort of on board for the 2 week extension the feds pushed.
Once that was over there were only a few states that said piss off we are done and Florida was one of them. Trump praised Florida for this. You can't call DeSantis lockdown without doing the same to Trump.

I'm not sure why having an elderly population means young healthy people have to be locked in their homes. We can only assume Desantis realized how ridiculous that is when he finally lifted the lockdown despite covid being just as dangerous then as it was when he began the lockdown.

However, his state was MOSTLY open in which is tied for 3rd in terms of states that locked down. With Alaska and Montana being the ones that beat them.
His state was also one of the first to fully open up banning country and local ordinances.
The age of his voters matter because he is a representative of his voters... which happened to be the most at risk in the country. To overcome the fear of such risk and still be in the top 20% of states is solid.
It is true it was just as risky... but we didn't know what that risk was when it started. Public health response should be much different for a disease that kills 4% of all who contract it vs something that kills 1% consisting of those already within a couple of years of death.
Details matter. The time line matters.
Being one of the best with one of the hardest demographics is a good response and your attempt to categorize it as middling at best is disingenuous.

Thataside, if you compare Desantis to all states he was pretty fantastic, but in terms of red states exclusively he's still pretty good, but not amazing.

Desantis was a little ahead of Trump when it came to opening back up, but I would say "criticizing one and praising the other for the response is retarded" is legit.
The "Narrative" whether you intended to or not was linking stories that showed Ron did a poor job opening back up (As Trump is claiming).
Truth be told Trump was a step or two behind Ron when it came to opening things back up.

I feel like I spent years hearing about communist chithole states were fully locked down and talking chit about Desantis because people here could go to the beach....meanwhile groomers like pat were coming here for vacation despite their tears.I can live with this statement. I still think you are underselling his response given the demographics of his state, but "pretty good" is fair enough.

It's all relative though and the point does have to be made, he chose to lock down for a while and I'm fundamentally opposed to that. I'm not going to hate on him for it but we can't act like it didn't happen.

You don't get to just compare things to "Ideal". You have to compare it to best available given the constraints.
I know how I would have dealt with it if I was the dictator of the US at the time. However, none of the options placed me in charge... So I have to go with my best choice of these available.
