You got close enough, but not exactly right...you have to sum the series. I looked at your answer again, and it is very close, but incorrect. Did you just add a bunch of terms up? That's not the right way...

The answer is 0.8*0.99*0.01/(1-0.8*0.99^2), which is approximately 0.03668.

Let S=ab +a^2b^3+...+a^nb^(2n-1).
Then ab^2S=a^2b^3+...+a^nb^(2n-1)+a^(n+1)b^(2n+1).
Then (1-ab^2)S=ab-a^(n+1)b^(2n+1).
So, S=(ab-a^(n+1)b^(2n+1))/((1-ab^2)).
Taking the limit as n approaches infinity, we get ab/(1-ab^2).

So, applying that here, and knowing that the probability of A or B is probability of A + probability of B - probability of both A and B, and knowing that there is no way Timothy can bang on multiple turns, we then set up the probability as

p=0.8*0.99*0.01+0.8^2*0.99^3*0.01+0.8^3*0.99^5*0.0 1+...

And so the result follows by letting a=0.8, b=0.99, and distributing 0.01 throughout.

Yeah I added like 100 odds for tim slaying lol, stopped till it was insignificant. Your formula uses an infinite amount which I guess would be the exact answer.

Not really an iq test tho, more like a stats knowledge test. Unless you wanted to find someone that could come up with that formula from scratch and no stats knowledge, and that person would probably have iq above 140 and would need more time to figure it out.
