Without delving into what might happen as interest rates remain higher for longer and companies start clamping down because money is no longer free, but what about improving and advancing your skills? This really is the career version of rotting.

A stint here or there is one thing but I would so not be sticking around in a WFH job long term

Yea I have a sales gig coming up where I should be more active. I'm learning programming in my spare time and economics though.

Some WFH jobs are legit. However I'm starting to rethink the whole thing now that covid is over. In person work is good because it forces social interaction.

No I WFH and legit work 6 days a week usually. Put in 6-9hrs a day. Reason I misc so much is it helps keep me sane

WFH since March 2020, been into office less than 20 x, do my work max 10 hours per week on average

saving money, doing my own thing ....feel like i have semi retired

COVID was the best thing ever

last performance review High Performing, the LOL is because i know my job so well and have lots of experience its very easy ....but everyone thinks i'm so busy

If you are actually doing this you're underestimating your IQ and soft skills to be able to pull it off even in the short term. Not a lot of people would be able to stack them without causing problem or an employer catching on

Depends on what you're outsourcing. Small repetitive stuff can be great. At a place I used to work, we had a group in India that created all our part numbers for us (which was far more involved than it should have been) and it worked great. Email them a cut sheet for a part and the next morning you had an email with a part number.

Anything that requires actual thought is a different story. Outsourcing computer testing to Taiwan was an absolute disaster and even trying to get them to send me basic troubleshooting info so I could do their job for them was like pulling teeth.

I WFH 4 days a week, and the one day a week I go into the office, I usually badge in in the morning then head home around lunch. I really don't do much at all anymore. I used to have an IT operations job where I was required to do more work, but moved into an IT systems engineering role, where I honestly have no idea wtf I am doing, and it's difficult to learn and grow without the forced social interaction among teammates and the ability to learn via osmosis. I spend more time reading/studying history during work hours than I do actual work. It doesn't feel sustainable.

This ........2 weeks out of the month, I usually dont even take a lunch break. I take 10 minutes in the morning to feed the dog and let him out and 10 minutes around 1pm to let him out again and eat something

the other 2ish weeks are considerably lighter days, but not nothing. it's my time to get everything caught up just in time to get back to the month close and be balls to the wall again.


I wouldn't mind picking up a "do nothing" 2nd WFH job to get another computer and collect a check till they figure me out. lol

Haha tbh it wouldn't surprise me if I didn't even bother turning on my mouse jiggler and I got away with it. Not only that but my boss just quit two weeks ago and didn't even tell me. Company is a total sleeper.

I did WFH for a few months back in 2021 and did it for a few more months at the start of this year between projects, and now I’m back to travelling 1000km for work

But that’s another definite risk that people could face when the gravy train ends and they’re unable to adapt to actually needing to go somewhere for work again

Mainly tech jobs but you've got to find the sweet spot. If it's an entry level job you're going to be doing a lot of grunt work and actually be busy for the full 8 hours in a day. On the other hand, if you're in a supervisory/managerial role you'll also be busy putting out fires and answering questions and attending meeting after meeting.

The goal is to find a mid level role. Software Engineer/Software Development is king for being OE (over employed) but there are other jobs that have the potential to work as well. Mid level Cybersecurity roles, Data Analytics (which can be hit and miss due to how busy it can be) and Data Science. Data entry and Customer Service roles "can" work, but it's nowhere near as guaranteed as being a SWE.

There are WFH jobs outside of tech that can work but they're often wildcards that may require you to come into the office...

And that's the reason that I'm exhausted on the days that i have to go in, despite it being a desk job with no physical activity. Honestly I don't want to be there standing around the coffeemaker hearing how John mowed his yard over the weekend.

I’m done at 4 almost every day. fap a lot during the day. Maybe do 3 hours of real work a day srs

This I agree with. Every week the WSJ has a anti wfh hit piece , it’s so apparently agenda driven it’s ridiculous
