The real tragedy is how minority groups are caught in the crossfire over these types of political conflicts. Look at Russia as an example. In an effort to oppose the west, Russia is now considering revamping its transgender laws, which were once among the most liberal on Earth to ban gender affirming care. This is how minorities get used as political pawns and destroyed.
