That’s just silly, greats such as ali and foreman whom you mentioned were clear that tyson would kill them. Foreman actually specifically avoided Tyson, and even admitted to doing so.

that's not true...

ali said "i'm in trouble if he touches me". While tyson was sitting across from him btw. It's called respect

also pretty sure the foreman thing isn't true either. Foreman was competing at the time and Tysons manager didn't want the fight

Prime Mike is the scariest boxer of all time imo. Once Cus died and he ditched his long time trainer Kevin Rooney and went over to Don King, he was no longer in his prime as he trained like chit with morons around him

No anyone having Tyson over ali.. is just silly (Foreman too)

Like i said Lewis/Holyfield would be ranked above him by most people who actually watch boxing and those guys are from his era

So how you think he gets into a top 10 with the likes of ali/louis/fraizer/holmes and co on top of those i mentioned?

There is nuance, you are just talking apples and oranges and missing historical context, hindsight is 20/20, but at the time of those fights, Tyson‘s opponents were regarded a lot higher than people tend to think of them today, in part because Tyson destroyed them so easily,

Second thing is you are confusing the level of boxing with the level of opposition, even if somebody does not face the highest level of opposition, they can display a much higher skill level than someone else who faced higher level of opposition, these are different concepts, my professional fighter buddies absolutely adore Tyson, and always talk about him and imitate him and learn his techniques and talk about them all the time, they don’t talk about Holyfield, or Lenox, it’s not even the same ballpark, tyson is a different universe.

You would be an absolute retard to bet on anyone else versus prime Tyson, that would be the surest way for you to lose your money.

His best win was over a natural light-heavyweight. Then there was an ageing Holmes coming off a 2 year layoff, and Berbick. No one else really worth mentioning.

Ali beat Foreman, Frazier, Liston, Shavers. All could reasonably be considered top 10 ATG heavyweights.

Tyson had insane talent and potential (arguably the greatest ever) but he fukked up his life well before he could prove himself on the same level as someone like Ali.

H2H matchups are just fantasy but even in that he loses to plenty of fighters. He was a great fighter but is not a top 10 heavy by any metric.

Mike wasn't in his prime at that point. Still extremely dangerous but by his own admission not at his peak.

Prime Tyson was Tyson pre-prison sentence and w/Cus D'amato and Kevin Rooney. When he came out of prison he's said, and I quote: "I knew I wasn't the same fighter [coming out of prison] but I knew I could still hit hard".

Yeah but could he beat Bruce Lee in a street fight?

That’s the real question

What a retarded take. Many of the guys Mike fought before his decline had similar or greater records (Holmes, Tucker, etc). Some came in undefeated too. It wasn't just that he beat them, it's how he beat them. He absolutely demolished every one of them.

The guy was a freak of nature in terms of strength and speed AND he was also training like a maniac. Add to that the sheer levels of rage in the guy and you got a nearly unbeatable fighter. He became a complete mess later on and still kept knocking mfkers out and going toe to toe with the absolute best.

yeah never really got the "prime" Mike thing, weren't both Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis older than him?

when was his supposed prime? pre Buster Douglas? that's some short ass prime compared to many other great boxers (he was only 23 at the time)

part of him being regarded as the greatest boxer probably has to do with the way he won many of his fights and his style of boxing, brutal quick KO's, it's flashy and especially in heavyweight that's what'll get you hype quick

Hes the biggest hype job in boxing history, most fanboys go straight to the "but he wasnt in his prime" default argument. In his prime he almost lost to quick tillis went the distance with green smith and tucker, got his ass beat by buster douglas.

Mike Tyson was a teen fighting grown ass men, yes some were tomato cans along the way but he did fight and beat some title holders who were in their prime.

Watch his fights for the most part they're all on youtube, look up the stats of every one of his contenders.

No. Just not true. I been following boxing for over 20 years religiously. Been in boxing forums for as long. I boxed for 10 years and coached.

Tyson is anything but overrated.

You can argue he’s not one of the greatest based on resume, but he certainly was one of the best.

You’d have to be an idiot to think Frazier lasts 12 rounds with him. Same Frazier that gave Ali hell.

Tyson is not in the top 5 all time Heavyweight greats but entertainment wise, he's goat.

Same thing with Mayweather. Not in the top 5 P4P list, but he's TBE at 'playing' the game of Boxing.

Tyson is one of my favorite boxers of all time, but the idea of Mike is better than the actual product

He has the highest ceiling but he's also the most mentally unstable of the "all time greats"

Op preaching the uncomfortable truth. Tyson is way overrated.
“Steroids is now just a word that the lazy and ignorant use to describe any guy that has more muscle and dedication than them”– Mike O'Hearn

"I am like getting the feeling of cumming in the gym; I'm getting the feeling of cumming at home; I'm getting the feeling of cumming backstage; when I pump up, when I pose out in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night. It's terrific, right? So you know, I am in heaven."
