electronics? I'm ashamed at how much money i've wasted over the years on electronics that are now obsolete or that I broke on accident. I extend this sentiment to all the worthless car mods that fell apart and ruining the resell value of my older cars that i've owned. It was all a comically massive waste of money.

vacations? Everytime I go on vacation I feel more stressed because I have to adhere to such a strict schedule to do all the things I wanted to do and usually find myself more exhausted comning back from vacation than when I initially left.

Clothes? I'm so glad I grew out of this phase. Target and Kohls is good enough for me. I'm getting to the age (late 30's) where its kinda try-hard/douchey to wear fashionable/trendy clothes. When you're my age trying to dress fashionable, it really starts to gives off:"How do you do fellow youths?"vibes. The only thing I spare no expenses on in terms of clothing is shoes because there's actual utility to them. Not the fashionable chit like Jordans or whatever but a good pair of running shoes and dress shoes is the difference between sore feet and knees/back after a long day of walking/hiking.

food? Never been a fan of all thePomp and Circumstanceof fine dining, but I will buy good cuts of meat from the butcher and i try to buy organic produce when I can, and every once and a while if i'm feeling adventurous, i'll experiment with exotic/specialty fruits like star fruit kaiwano dragon-fruit and pineberries.

wife/GF? if you can find a girl that doesn't place a lot of emphasis on status and material things she needs to be wifed up immediately.

Cars? I wish to someday be able to buy a car solely because I think it looks cool and not care about the timing belt shredding at 15kmiles (*coughAUDIcough* and *coughBMWcough*) but i'm not at that point in my life yet. For now, its either Honda or Toyota less of a headache in the long run too.

House? the larger the house the more problems you have. taking care of a house is a job all on its own. Nothing is never right, something is ALWAYS broken or about to break or needs to be replaced. A Fence is always broken, a pipe is always clogged somewhere the roof is always leaking, the contractors never put the insulation in right. If its not the hot water heater dying its the AC/Heating or there's some sort of pest infestation or the windows are drafty or one side of the house grows mold...it never ends...and in the very rare moment that everything is right with the house, you develop the urge to want to remodel so now there's months and months of arguing and complaining about contractors and landscapers because they never do anything right or they take all summer just to replace a few planks on the backyard deck, and you can't just do it yourself because when you go to have the house appraised they'll give you chit for not having work "professionally" done by a licensed individual.

All of it if you like it. Fortunately I found a lot of cheap stuff that I like and work it into my life to balance things out. I enjoy some canned soups and tuna sandwiches. I’m cool with $30 sneakers because I only wear them to run and treat them like chit. But I spend a lot on taking the family out to beaches, fishing gear, and watches.

Find what is important to you and balance it out. Fit in some cheap stuff where it works. It’s really just a matter of managing what is important to you.

Something that after you have paid for it, and the "newness" wears off, you are still glad you have it. Something where if you had to do it again, you wouldn't change much if anything.

I hear ya a good pair of shoes. I got a pair of combat/construction type type boots from Thursday boot company that were $270...they are awesome and I wear them every day with jeans when it isn't warm weather

speaking of jeans i'll wear about any brand but do think levi's are kinda worth it when on sale for $25-40. pair those with the $10 flannels i have and "dressing" is simple for me in cooler months.

For me... A truck that's reliable, a boat that's reliable, a out $12k worth of motors and electronics for the boat (gps guided trolling motor, Garmin live scope, hummingbird side imaging) and another $8k in fishing gear. 10 or so guns, a decent house. And a vacation from time to time. Went to Alaska last fall and have a trip to Antarctica booked with my girlfriend... honestly I live pretty modestly and save and invest most of my money. Im pretty happy with that.
