I've always maintained the left and right need each other, both bringing different things to the table. I dislike the tribalist mentality of some people who try and only promote "their team" and denigrate the other. The left is creative and the right is more centered. Both have purpose.

In regards to "intellectualism" specifically, the left spends more time in theoretical situations, higher education, the right spends more time getting tangible experience and doing things. In this case, yes, if intellectualism are those spending more time thinking about and discussing 'whatever', the left owns that.

In economics you've got Milton Friedman, who was quite appreciated in his time, won the Memorial prize (Sowell mostly just regurgitated his ideas). Hayek can perhaps be added to this list.

Robert Nozick is pretty much the only one I can think of from modern political philosophy (ironically almost never cited by conservatives).

There are just not that many names even if you go back into previous centuries. Because ultimately "we should stick to traditions and resist social change" does not lend itself to people who like to formulate new ideas, challenge existing structures and break antiquated modes of thinking.

Fine, Sowell lays out the argument, quite succinctly and brilliantly, that intellectuals produce nothing but ideas and possess no consequential knowledge. Further, the ideas they produce are frequently incorrect, but they suffer no downsides to this due to their self-elevation as "experts". Whereas an engineer is judged on his ability to design a bridge, and if said bridge were to fail he would be working at Safeway if he wasn't in prison, an intellectual is judged on the amount of ideas he produces, and the quality of those ideas is irrelevant. Essentially, the modern intellectual is wrong most of the time, but pays no price for being wrong.

Intellectuals in general: "I did well in school and as a result I have an advanced education and a lot of knowledge and yet it is hard for me to make a living because there isn't anything I can do that people need. I should be rewarded for my credentials." So basically, they look to the left which supports institutional systems.

And this is the attitude that keeps deplorables fearing education. An education has always been a massive forecaster of future success. Every single one of my friends kids graduated college and ALL have excellent jobs, ranging from teachers to PTs to PAs to Accountants to Physicians.

None have be tradies who wear their names on their shirts and slop around in dirt and chit all day while trying to avoid getting killed at work.

EVERY advancement in this country has come from the educated. Be it in medicine, technology, farming, everything. Hell we educated even create stuff that makes life less unpleasant for tradies.
