I think Russia was stupid to do a full-on invasion from 3 different angles of the country. They basically tried to encircle the entire country at the same time, which is a stupid idea against a decent sized country with a legitimately decent military like Ukraine.

They would have been smarter to go all-in on taking Kiev at once instead of splitting up their manpower. They came damn close to taking Kiev right at the start, but faltered just enough for Ukraine to push them back out to the edges of the country. Now imagine if they had had the resources they sent to the south of the country to take Kiev straight away.

Also, NATO has been funding Ukraine's military for years now. So they had a better start to defend against Russia than a lot of people realize. It's just that NATO upped it 10x over now.
