Michael Corleone was based on Salvatore Bonnano, Moe Greene was Bugsy Siegel, Hyman Roth was Meyer Lansky, Johnny Ola is Vincent Alo. The war in the movie is based on the Gallo-Profaci war.

They're good movies, as in the plot and acting is usually great, but the theme of "mafia" got played-out through the 80's and 90's. Everyone was trying to make the next "Godfather"

I could never get into Casino for some reason. And I love every other mainstream mafia movie

In real life most mob guys make pretty much middle class wages. They say that most families have around 120 made guys. Out of them maybe 20-30 are consistent earners. So the large bulk of them are just degenerates who hang around getting drunk and doing nothing all day. Maybe getting an occasional score.

So that means they will do all these crimes and killing and put themselves and their families at risk just to make the same as the manager at office depot who takes no risks in life.

Why the hell would you want to do that? Also why the hell is it always glorified?

There's no specific "type" that I consider to be GOAT, Ernie. It would depend almost solely on the movie itself. I do consistently enjoy 1970s car movies though. And I'm not even into cars. A lot of good chase and racing movies were put out in the 70s. Even the bad ones I find enjoyable. Mafia movies never did anything for me though. And I've seen most of the big ones. I feel like a lot of dudes worship them just because they think they're supposed to worship them. They believe The Godfather is the best movie of all time simply because they've heard others tout that same line for years. I really don't know how you can take such cartoonish portrayals as anything other than parody. These are very clearly actors playing a role in a scripted, rehearsed movie. How do you get into that? And both DeNiro & Pesci are drastically over-rated. They have the same performance in every movie. And folks will stand there with a straight face and call DeNiro the greatest actor of all time? What!? I don't even know. I really don't.

Unpopular but correct opinion

I’ve never seen the Godfather, so I wouldn’t know. It’s the same with westerns, Wyatt Earp was a real person, but those John Wayne films are mostly fictional, putting aside any characters he played that were based on real people.
