I don't know man. Maybe there is some truth to that, but patriots who die on the battlefield is a little different than some women kicking a ball around in a field. You shouldn't be head-over-heels about anyone just because they come from your same country or play a sport you like. That being said, I don't think people hate them exclusively for their Trump comments. It's more so their general vibe of only making headlines with complaints about already disproven and/or over exaggerated equal pay bs when they simply don't provide the same level of interest or success as the men's team. But wait you might say, the women win more! No, they don't. They cannot beat a high school men's team and everyone knows it. So when they win the world cup against other countries, many of which have women who have worse lives than women in the US, it's just not impressive on the same level, although it's still cool for them.

Another thing to consider is that it's THIS team people don't like. Not the US women's team in general. Don't confuse a strong dislike of these current players (some of them anyway) with all women or women's sports. I'll cheer for plenty of women, in plenty of sports. However, I will never cheer for Rapinoe or this women's team. I don't care for them personally and I find it funny that they lost. They don't represent me for one second and I couldn't care less about the Olympic team. Had they won the entire world cup again I would say that's cool they did great, there is no debate they are good players, but compared to women. Compared to men unfortunately they just aren't equally skilled and don't bring the same level of interest. It's the same exact story with the WNBA, except obviously the women's soccer team is a national team.

TLDR, people don't like certain players which is why it feels good to watch them lose. it's not a country thing, it's the fact they are obnoxious people and we don't want them to succeed due to that. They aren't more American than you or I (not sure if you're american but w/e) just because they play a game and put a flags on. I played soccer my whole life and dated and played with quite a few USWNT players over the years. They're the best in the world for a reason and it was because they had pride in the badge. Now they don't. They spend more time worrying about pay gaps and hating america and it is disturbing to see in the chicks I know to flip completely like that.
