Same. I drive a 2012 Silverado that's paid off. A little banged up but drives well. Could definitely afford something newer but why? My coworkers all start and immediately buy a new truck, new boat, and new camper then wonder why they can't save money with a 6 figure salary. Would rather spend my money on investment houses and then let the profit pay the bills. Don't want to spend my salary on bottomless money pits....

depends, with select few cars/trucks (toyota) there is value in being the original owner as long as you know how to take care of cars and plan to keep it a long time. I'ts worth paying the 15% depreciation because it is trivial when a car lasts 15 years and 300k miles

I buy the clothes that fit me the best that will actually last long. I buy shoes I like and that look good to me. I have a Guess watch I got 12 years ago for $105 and every time I wear it everyone says "dude what watch is that it's sick." Clearly no one cares about mogger watches. My car is a 2013 nissan sentra I bought cash. Prior to the iphone 14 I have I had a Samsung A20 for 4 years that I bought cash also for $180. I finally bought an apple laptop purely for the function and speed, and especially the durability, because every other cheaper laptop I had was chit after 2 years.

My furniture is all ikea stuff I've had post college either from ikea or hand me downs I took from people.

The one item I could say I'm a little bougie on are my flannels. The best fit for me are patagonia and the mid weight. Expensive but they're hands down the best quality I've ever had. I do have 2 pairs of rayban sunglasses, but I didn't own sunglasses until 2021. I only bought them because they were the only brand I tried on that fit my face well and didn't look retarded on me.

Maybe I'm too cheap. I still buy quality stuff too, but just for the purpose of lasting way longer.

Only one I'd somewhat criticize is the furniture one. Especially having a quality couch and chairs is worth having. Ikea crap shouldn't really cut it in most cases.

It's not just about appreciation/depreciation. It's about FV/Future Value of Money. As time goes on your money loses it's purchasing power due to inevitable inflation.

If you have $50K cash in hand for a new vehicle you could buy it outright, sure. You would lose on the depreciation factor immediately.. However, if you borrow 50K at 2-4% and you take that 50K and put it into a blue chip stock, you SHOULD see better returns (~10%) than the 2-4% interest youre paying on the loan. Therefor, you are actually making 6-8% on that 50K invested and paying the loan off monthly.

That's the gist of it, of course if the market crashes youre fukked either way.

I understand watches can increase in value or at the very least be a store of value. But aside from watch nerds nobody gives a crap about your watch either.

Oakleys/Raybans really aren't in the same league as big designer names and are a quality product. As far as quality shoes you can buy decent shoes for $200-300 that will last forever without going full retard. I've run into people that pay $500-600 for a pair of Nike sneakers. Or $1000+ for a pair of designer shoes. Shoes that kind of suck but have name value.

Well the reason I said that one and only have cheap furniture is because I'm a rentcel. So I have zero ambition to buy fancy stuff right now for that since i'll either throw all this out eventually.
