I believe everyone generates the world around them within there mind. Imagination and psychosis causes a schism in the brains reality thus causing it to become more of simulation. I don't think imagination was expected when the big bang happened and we got this quantum sandbox of particles.

What makes Elon "one of the brightest minds in our society"?

The only reason he is as powerful as he is is because the government wants it, people don't even want EVs but the government is trying to force them upon you, usually there is a need for a product by the consumer, a producer meets that need and they become rich as a result. In this case, the consumer does not want the product so the government producer offers incentives to buy EVs and offers punishment if the consumers decide they like gas. Elon is not organically successful, he was Chosen By Gov.
