You nailed it. It's the burning question a lot of people by me are asking. However most of my friends parents, my older coworkers, and neighbors are all obsessed with Florida and moving there. Yea good luck with the weather and COL now since everyone is migrating there. The 4 seasons are a must. Imagine Xmas without winter or snow lmao. Fall is the most amazing season you could experience. Can't imagine warm weather all year long.

My Family is spread out like this
Mom's side: Aunt and cousins live 1 min. away. grandparents live 10 min. away. Uncle lives alone in Hobart, IN
Dad's side: All aunt's and uncles live in Naperville area in IL. All my cousins are way older than me and all of them live around that area or areas 10-20 min. away. Grandparents are both gone on this side

So literally all of my family is here. My dad's extended family is all in WV, and he is actually there right now for a family reunion. He wants to move there since he was born there, or live in Kentucky because he grew up there before moving to IL at 16.

My mom has extended family in MN (all the Swedes), but fuk MN. My mom wants cold weather. She hates heat with all her might so my mom and dad are constantly bickering about where to move. Kentucky and WV are both much more mild and very hot in the summer so my mom says no.

I am more on my mom's side with this. Now it's just time to spend the next year looking around and experiencing some of these places

Boise has 4 seasons, so does utah. too many options honestly if thats your metric
I just like a good winter. Mild winters won't do it for me. CO is a maybe depending on where and the COL. Utah is probably a no go unless I'm closer to SLC. I was in Utah in May down south for a week and I enjoyed it a lot, but couldn't live there.

I don't blame you. Places like IL and CA are done for. Politics, crime and taxes are just not worth the hassle despite their upsides. Curious where you eventually choose to look in WI. South Haven might be something I look at when I'm older to have a condo or summer place there.

Wouldn't wait on selling the Big Bear property if that is your plan. Saw a video on that area [person with a place there] who said that something like 80% of the airbnb houses were vacant/no bookings so it seems quite possible that a lot of those properties could hit the market sooner rather than later.

Back in DFW which is where I was born, but most likely on the way outbound to someplace else. Property taxes are very high here also. The tax and insurance on this home are around $6K a year with the homestead exemption. My escrow right now is a bigger number than the mortgage and interest. The property tax valuation has increased 77% since 2018.

I've been trying to figure out what to do and where to next since around the end of 2019. I've read a lot and watched a lot.

I know you said your mom is against WV and I've no real reason to convince you to go there, but there are areas that are colder and the real estate prices aren't too bad. Not a great place for a career unless you are a remote worker maybe. Could be good for a homestead.

IMO everywhere has gotten a lot more expensive, even rural areas in desirable states.

If you can get over the puke orange color everywhere because of the "university" in the town Knoxville isn't bad. I know tons of people who've moved to Nashville too in the past 10 years. Chatanooga isn't a bad place either. I know everywhere I mentioned was in TN but there aren't 4 seasons to the south and I'm not sure why anyone would want to live north of there unless you love taxes and abortion

Weather in New England is pretty basic. Hot in the summer...cold in the winter.
Storms and natural disasters are usually pretty tame compared to other parts of country.
