I think covid exposed how bad it is to be forced into being completely idle for a lot of people. I just drank copious amounts of tequila because wtf else was I gonna do after completing 45 minutes of 'work' at home?

Homicide rates went up for the first time in 30 years, drug overdose skyrocketed, suicide went up....

Old people who find purpose in being active to SOME degree into their 70's, and even 80's are the happiest/sharpest old people you'll ever meet.

Cause an idle mind ruins you. For someone that has a ton of hobbies/interests they can get by being unemployed. But most people just rot without work. It keeps you out of trouble, mentally or otherwise

Retired at 50, and there's no attraction to working again.

I enjoy doing all the things I've never had time to do working 40/hrs week.

Look at people like the rolling stones, Stallone, Arnie or Travolta, then add in more "ordinary" people like doctors, professors etc.

They keep going until they no longer can. They don't need the money, they do it because it's what they do.

There is a huge difference between punching the clock and feeling a sense of accomplishment in doing something they are passionate about.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

Tons of stuff to do with you're time being retired

Active in about 100 different ways along with hobbies. Running, biking, swimming, fishing, golf, reading, gardening, woodworking, traveling, cooking, playing chess, photography, etc.

yeah I guess that's true.... I love my work. I could see myself doing it at least to SOME degree until I was physically or mentally incapacitated.

But also, if you hate your job at WALMART... You should recognize that you have the ability to TRY that thing you always wanted to do.

Five years for full pension when you turn sixty years old or thirty years for full pension if you're under sixty. But you can get a pretty decent early deal if you retire starting at twenty years I think.

I'm a teacher.

edit: I just went back and looked. It's not 80%. They use a different formula that doesn't equal up to 80%. The rest was correct and they do base it on your highest five years though. My bad.

I am 34 now. I got 4,000,000 invested.

I get a pension and full health benefits when I turn 52.

Hoping to be around 8-10 million when I turn 52. Buy a winter house in Florida and summer house in Maine. Probably volunteer somewhere and travel with my old lady.
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

Also it’s different when you never needed to work, having autonomous control over what job path and career you take due to not NEEDING money is a luxury most of the world can’t afford. I am very lucky to be in the position I’m in, I imagine wage slaving in a job you hate puts a different look on retirement.
