Not supported by any models but I feel like these strengthening gulf storms often end up bending a bit more to the east than the official forecast. Which is why I mentioned Tampa Bay as a possible landfall location yesterday. A wobble just a few dozen miles to the east and Tampa Bay is fukked.

[img]https://forum.obnoxiousbrutes.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=9410673&stc=1&d=169324 3936[/ig]
The NHC does great work but there's two things they always struggle with. First of all when it's still in TD or TS phase the models aren't quite as accurate and often initiate a run just a bit off the actual center which messes up the entire run. Then there's the intensity forecasts which not only most models struggle with, the NHC admits to being conservative in their forecasts because they don't want people to underestimate future storms when they're wrong.

The last part would be pretty dang harsh for Tampa Bay because I'm pretty sure last year they were ordered to evacuate and the storm ended up missing them for the most part. You can bet on not as many people leaving this time if they're ordered to evacuate.

Previous models look almost due north from current position, new one has some models starting off NNW.

Only question is where. I'm guessing closer to the Tampa Bay area with some east shifts in the modeling.

Water temps are 30-31c and it's got almost another 24 hours over those waters. Those global models never do well with intensity forecasts.

Apparently the area taking the direct hit hasn't had a major hurricane landfall in like 100+ years so I bet infrastructure isn't built to withstand all of the incoming power of mother nature.
