The next step that would be the ultimate gamechanger is to figure out how your brain generates dreams that seem absolutely real, and make a game (think Brain Storm with Christopher Walken) that can interface in to the same degree, so that you ARE in the game. Could be a problem though if you die in it...

I see the point you are trying to make and I agree video cards and benchmarks for gamers is what we all looked forward to as far as being dumbed down. Pc game developers don't write to the metal because again they know they can't max everything out cause few people own that $600 video card.

On a console you can write to the metal and not have to worry about please those different demographics .

This was about graphics having nothing left really to wow the gamer. Its got about as advanced as it's going to get . What's next? I'm sure there will still be minor advancements ahead. My point of the thread though was we will never get that wow factor we had when we jumped from ned snes Genesis. To n64, etc etc
There is so much more to come is what I meant, primarily because there is too much at stake (billions and billions of dollars, jobs...).

If you look at PC Displays the fact that my QD OLED from Alienware easily competes with my LG OLED TV brought a new level of immersion in games.

Hardware is shifting and microled is coming too. Graphical fidelity...people don't give enough credit. Even Mass Effect Andromeda was gorgeous (a bad game though).

When I played HZD on PC I was wowed too.

For me it isn't that graphics don't improve - it is that there are so few good games to play, especially in terms of innovation. So yeah arpgs? Huh. Action RPGs? Heavily dependent on story - the new Dragon Age and Mass Effect should be great.

But the folks who made our favorite games are gone in large part aside from CD Projekt Red. You just can't make a game like the original starcraft these days, and it is either because the new average consumer is a low test pay 2 win child, or...we grew up.

Still thinking about this one. Good thread breh.

Honestly gaming is good now, it's really mostly AAA games that have stagnated hard. Look at Bethesda resting on their Laurels and essentially releasing the same game on loop for over a decade and AC/Farcry doing very similarly. Indie and AA with the occasional interesting AAA release are where the good stuff is.

Someday? Someday my dream will come? One night you will wake up and discover it never happened. It's all turned around on you. It never will. Suddenly you are old. Didn't happen, and it never will, because you were never going to do it anyway.
