Alcohol is a drug that is legal and socially acceptable. It's actually socially unacceptable if you don't drink. There is a stigma if you don't drink. Like many drugs it has some benefits. Like many other things, doesn't take much for the cons to start overriding the pro's. A lot of alcoholics in my family and they swore up and down it benefited them. Different degrees of alcoholics.

There really are a bunch of social benefits. But lets be real, most people here arent the social type of drinkers. When i did drink it was always about girls, parties, and dancing.

There is this. The only thing is for a lot of people they need to drink to have a good time and it leads to other things. It lessens your inhibitions' so you can cut loose easier. Also if you act stupid people will excuse if more. NGL, had a few drinks and made moves on some sloots that I wouldn't have completely sober. Not rapey crap but like kissing some girl or dancing with her and getting things started. If she decides against it "oh well we were drinking" and by gones be bygones.

I quit drink and smoking 3-4 months ago srs. Was never into either heavy and ill have a drink for special occasion but ive been way more motivated. Im literally out hiking every single week now, doing about 100+ miles a month with a 40lb bag.

learned a ton of outdoor skills over the years so ill just walk out, head to a random place just using a map and compass and topo maps, camp out for 2-3 days then come home. Its so much more fun than ducking bar rats asking for free drinks

The lie of sobriety was created around 1900.

People are vastly more creative and productive while drinking.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

Without alcohol and tobacco what's the point? Grinding out 56-96 hours a week, love my alcohol; too bad weed is still a no go for me, fckin' work...
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.

Haven't drank for two weeks, hence the Sober September thread. Since college, the longest I've gone without any alcohol is 45 days, and I did that on two separate occasions. Pretty much every time the results are about the same: sense of superiority, saved some money, less water weight / bloat and leaner after a bit, etc. But a major thing is after a couple of weeks you don't even really miss it.

Weed is a good replacement though to pass the time, with the exception of times when you are actually planning to do social stuff.

If you're one to go overboard with alcohol on the occasion, it can really phark up your life. Job loss, DUI, blackout, bad decisions in general. There's a reason they serve alcohol at casinos, less impulse control and less thought out decisions.

I still drink, but significantly cut down on drinking in 2023 compared to the last 3-4 years. Literally a night and day difference for my work productivity compared to the past.

Which is funny, because it's actually a much tougher market to operate in compared to the past. Was exactly the kick in the ass I needed to get my career to the next level.

Nothing wrong with having a nice drink now and again. Not every day, though. I have no earthly idea how people function drinking copious amounts of booze every day.

Seems like a good time. I just wouldn't want one Irish coffee to become 20, effectively pissing that day away.

I know that's the thing with morning drinks. You risk burning up your day but knowing me, I'd be pretty good about it.

When I gave up alcohol it wasn't like I had an issue. I use to just drink causally with friends or networking type happy hours. Never got super wasted or blacking out type stuff. But then I got strict into lifting and being health conscious so it was no problem cutting out booze.
