Surprised folks aren't mentioning Gaggenau in this range - they are objectively better than Viking in terms of fridges, especially in terms of temperature control.

I had to do similar earlier this year. The old fridge gave up the ghost. And only an odd size would fit into the space, with only 3 pricy companies making that size. To top things off, the wait time for 2 of the fridges was 1 to 2 years. The Dacor bought arrived in 4 months. Everyone loves the Dacor. i thought a refrigerator was just a refrigerator but apparently that isn't the case.

Refrigerator- keeps food cold.

Thats the entire purpose for it. Dont need internet wifi and all that crap to do its job.

All that extra stuff strapped onto them are just fluff.

no you get a replacement part and move on with your life - most of the parts are not made by the OEM, they are made by the same handful of component manufacturers

this is what "weekend car repair" and "home fix it" guys do.
the rest, call a repair company, see if the part is available, and then decide if the price of the repair is worth it, or get a new machine.

The GE guy said, nope not available no charge, see ya.
The appliance guy said, i can get it for 400 or you can get a new machine for 750-800.

I got a thermado fridge and freezer but honestly they dont have that much space in terms of actual storage,

also double check if it has a icemaker in it

the job of a fridge is to keep food cool in one part and frozen in the other. luckily for me, even the ones $1000 or less do that equally well as the ones costing $10,000.

What on earth is the case for blowing so much money on these things? Even the cheapest jap crap fridge does fridge things and if it is too small for an obease 'merican diet I can get shopping delivered to my door for £1-2.

A $10k fridge is worth the effort to get somebody to come fix it. Even if you have to spend $2-3k on a compressor, it's cheaper than buying another $8k fridge.

The high end stuff are built to commercial standards and are to be repaired, not tossed in the trash.

If you lived closer, I'd come pick up the old one for you, fix it and flip it for a nice profit.
