lol there ain't too many twists on lifting and putting down weight...I know those that get autistically obsessed with it can spend their life fleshing out ever minute nuance about it but that's boring as hell.

who knew people in the year 2023 would be so bored they obsess over picking up metal plates

Nah I don't get bored at all. I get aggressive lifting weights. Hit 670x3 on deadlift yesterday and was pretty pumped. Most people just go in and lift the same 40lb dumbbells over and over month after month and make 0 progress in strength or physique. That would be boring as fuk but they aren't doing it right

Why is posting on the misc so mind-numbingly boring?

Have you ever wondered this?

Do you have to be on the spectrum to some degree to enjoy the same mind-numbinglynboring chit over and over and over?

If we peel away the layers people make up in their minds, I think the root of bodybuilding is actively doing something that could potentially contribute to us getting love, admiration and acceptance you mention. Internally, we all sorta at least have this hunch that looks are all that matter so lifting pieces of metal over and over and over get us closer to all that...hence "fun"...building..."better"...closer to love.

it could be boring if you are not actively engaged in performing a peak contraction for time

to become stronger, build up to a peak contraction

those who are notfeelingmay find it boring

climb the staircase of contractile power, micro-loading weight until it cannot be moved from the resting position. even then struggle against it for a few bursts and try to dial in your exertion

I could see how it could be boring if your not able to consistently increase muscle mass and strength month after month. But that takes a lot more effort and discipline than most people are willing to give.

Having more muscle mass is fun? Does your muscle mass jump off your body and do stand up comedy?

Its a simple activity doesn’t need too much to be explained, if you get it you get it

the resistance of the weight, the feeling of pushing your body, performing a movement with excellence, the pump, the clanging of the metal, seeing yourself get stronger fuuark

Also it’s more fun when you actually look good/are strong/get results (respectfully)

Yeah it is a lot of fun, its gotten a lot of attractive women in bed and sex is better than comedy. Plus it helps with powerlifting.

Do you set goals or have performance or progression in mind? Sure, it's fkn boring if you just juice and then grunt obnoxiously while lifting bish weights pretending like it's not the juice doing all the work. But if you actually try to progress on your key lifts it's fun because along the way your technique gets better, you learn how to manage fatigue (e.g. alternate between going hard and deloading) and develop an intuitive understanding of programming.

still sounds boring as hell. progress towards what? you ain't gonna become superman.

but as mentioned, I think "progress" is a synonym for progressing towards validation, love, acceptance by others and feeling better about yourself via any validation, love and acceptance it gets you. lifting weights is like an active way of making yourself into a "better" version of yourself (that you've formulated to be better in your mind) that is more deserving of love and validation.

At the core humans are simple and just want to be loved. They'll go to autistic lengths in pursuit of love.

You could also view progress as an innate human drive

I think it’s silly as seeing it as only a means towards love / acceptance

It’s an expression of the never ending expansion and progress of the universe itself

sounds fanciful but i'm just having trouble in connecting repetitive picking up of metal plates with some form of never ending expansion and progress of the universe which thus makes it fun

Have you seen people at the gym nowadays? There's maybe a handful that actually lift with a purpose, most of the time, they have this stupid, unfocused, bored look on their face, they do half assed set, and pull out their phone.

There's times where I'm 8 sets into a workout, I look across the gym, and the same mope is still on the leg press machine.......
