I didn't start smoking till I was 36/37. Nasty habit and an expensive one.
If you were able to quit how did you accomplish it?

Easy mode quit with a vape. Start using the 6 MG stuff, then go to 3, then start buying 0 nic juice and fill your 3 MG bottle with it when it's half full. Eventually you'll be at so little nicotine you'll wonder why you're taking robocop's metal schlong into your mouth at all. Done within a couple months max
As for staying off it, get into a sport that requires cardio and it's easy. Nobody wants to be sucking **** through a soda straw every time they train or play

I was a pack a day smoker for about 15 years.
Now I smoke occasionally, but I must admit, I think I am done for a long term now.
First time I quit it was really hard, I used nicotine chewing gum. Some deep breath exercises when you are stressed help too.
Occasionally the wife and will have a cigarette when we are out socially, but to be honest I am pretty sick of that too.

I currently smoke about 50 a day.
I have quit using champix, I tried champix again and it didn't work.
Last time I quit I just switched to vaping and had no difficulty, if I seriously try to quit again it will be a move back to vaping, I've given up trying to quit nicotine completely, someone who smokes as much as me champix won't work for.
Vaping is cheaper, and I can do it more for less cost, like constantly all day, whereas smoking I just go outside 20 or 30 times where I smoke 2 in a row, bonus is if I get my old job back working from home I can vape in between calls while I'm working.

Some people say once you get past the first week, it's easy to abstain after that. In reality it varies widely by individual, and this can be a dangerous mentality. For me, I was never a heavy smoker (half a pack a day at worst), and smoked maybe 10 years, tried quitting a few times before I finally did so successfully, a few years ago. Quitting was quite difficult for me -- factors that aligned to put the appropriate pressures in place were finally quitting drinking, getting married, having a kid, and not hanging out with other smokers anymore. But take any one of those out of the equation and even today it I feel like it is very likely I could fall back into smoking or some other form of nicotine. Not a day goes by that I don't crave a smoke. All that to say, OP I hope you stay strong, make it past a week, then a month, then a year, but never let your guard down thinking you're in the clear, because it doesn't take a whole lot to reawaken that smoker's wiring in your brain.

download a quit smoking app which keeps track of how many days you're smoke free, and more importantly, shows how much money you're saving...very motivating
