I'm going to assume you're not like the idiots on reddit comparing the general public wearing masks being on the same level as wearing one during surgery or like seatbelt laws. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're not that much of a tard.

Somehow people have started to believe that any mask is better than none at all which is complete crap. Early on the CDC put something out saying cloth masks are good at reducing transmission by ~60% which is absolutely laughable. It's why you see people wearing masks that do absolutely nothing except tell people what side of the aisle you are politically. The same people screaming about mask mandates are the ones you see wearing masks that protect no one. They're constantly pulling it down to sip their Starbucks, touching their face, not fit tested, etc. There is probably SOME benefit to wearing a fit tested N95 but you can't take it off to eat or drink and it's incredibly uncomfortable to wear. And no you can't reuse the same one over and over again. 99% of the people won't do that which is why this is all theater. If a cancer drug is successful in the lab but fails in real world trials you don't call it a success. But somehow mask mandates never working is peoples fault and would be successful for **x liberal reason** because it works in some highly controlled environment that isn't even close to the real world.

This has been a thing for years even before the pandemic at the hospitals ive worked at. Right around flu season (October-June the following year) there was a push to wear a mask. They wold have them in the lobby and triage areas in the ER. It wasn't mandated but it was highly encouraged.

Besides, it's a hospital. If there is any place someone should be wearing a mask it's in a place where the highest concentration of people are sick. Asian countries have been doing it for decades. In the West, the pandemic was just the spark to mandate a seasonal need for masks. Not just for covid but for any type of disease that may be spread.

DHs have always worn masks so that their sputum doesn't enter your mouth and other openings while they're literally on top of your face cleaning your teeth.

Japan had their worst flu season on record in 2019 and they were one of the few where people would wear a mask when sick to prevent spreading it to others. If there is a benefit to wearing masks we sure haven’t seen it in any real world scenario.

For now, they will bring them back everywhere eventually.

If you were a "Doctors without Borders" (a physician that travels overseas to treat people what don't have access to modern medicine) and you're sent to a village known to have tuberculosis, would you wear a mask as a precaution or not wear one because"it doesn't work anyway"

Nothing in there I disagree with. The idea of different settings is what I was getting at. Masks in various healthcare settings was never talked about until Covid blew everyone’s minds.

Now, masks are a sign that “they” are out to get us again. Militant maskers and anti-maskers don’t make sense to me.

The pandemic was just a reason to mandate it. I've been working in hospitals, and clinics up and down California, Arizona and New Mexico since 2010 and its always been encouraged that visitors wear masks if they're sick or to take a free mask to wear during flu season.

No they shouldn’t be abolished but they shouldn’t be mandated either. If your village idiot wants to wear a rainbow cloth mask more power to them. If I was around someone with known tb id be doing a hell of a lot more than wearing some ****ty surgical mask. Funny enough respirators are banned in a lot of places that have/had mandates and those are something that would actually help on an individual level.

Even in healthcare settings. The clinic I use right now doesn’t require masks. The guy drawing my blood had a cloth mask with some lgbtq support message on it. If it gets mandated you’ll see a lot more or that. At this point it feels like even in healthcare few workers wear masks because they think it protects them. Seems like a lot of them wear it to hide their face or for some weird ass political reason.

My jobs have always required masks in some form or a other so it seems silly to me that it's become politicized. As for the LGBT masks, people will color and decorate anything if they can get away with it. Hell, just look at scrubs now days. You can get them in every color of the rainbow you can get them with your favorite sport team logo on them cartoon characters, you name it. There was a nurse I use tonworkbwith who was famous for wearing a "Where's Waldo" scrub top and people would try to find the Waldo, lol.

A group of hospitals here is now requiring masks anytime flu,rsv, or Covid transmission is above their arbitrary number. On paper it’s the hospitals doing it amongst themselves but in reality the health officer is a grade A nut that wants masks worn everywhere so it has everything to do with him. He just didn’t want to be the one getting the backlash. Even on the press release it says direct all questions on the policy toward the individual hospitals.

I really wonder even when the metrics are hit if some of the hospitals don’t do it or don’t enforce it out of fear of pushback which even here will happen.

If it was Covid I wouldn’t give a chit. I was flying home last week and the girl next to me was obviously sick as chit. Constant dry cough and all of the usually Covid symptoms. She wore a cloth mask but constantly took it down to eat and drink. I went about my day and didn’t think twice about it. Of course your usual Redditor would be crying about it but most people these days don’t give Covid a second thought.
