But I think it would be the same for guys too?

I was at the gym—and ended up having an hour long conversation with a guy there. He got my number and messaged me saying he wanted to hug me and talk to me all night o.o so I guess…he really liked talking to me?

If a woman starts off being on the fence about you based on your looks, being great at conversation/banter can help get you nudged towards the finish line. If she starts of thinking "Nope." straight up about your looks, then all the banter in the world won't change her mind about you.
